Guest Post from The Lazy Laquerista: Contrary Polish Bright Lights, Small City Swatches & Review

Hello Toxid Lotus readers!

I’ve been lucky enough to have the chance to take over the blog for the day. Today I have a polish from Contrary Polish to show you. Bright Lights, Small City was part of the July 2014 A Box Indied from Llarowe. I managed to snag one for myself a couple weeks ago from a stash sale.

Contrary PolishContrary Polish

Bright Lights, Small City features a navy jelly base with a coppery-red shimmer throughout. Don’t freak out when the first coat is super streaky. It does layer up very nicely. It took me three coats to reach opacity but I feel like if I were a bit more careful I could have done it in two. Photos show three coats of Bright Lights, Small City with one coat of CND Super Shiney top coat in daylight spectrum lighting.

The only thing that left me wanting with this polish was the shimmer. It was a lot more apparent in the bottle than on the nail. I feel like if I did two coats instead of three it would show through more though. A balancing point is the wear time. I’m on my fourth day of wearing this polish and there’s not a chip to be seen. It seems to play very nicely with my base of Duri Rejuvocate and CND Super Sticky base coat. You can’t buy this polish directly anymore but you can still find it floating around in sale and swap groups. You can find Contrary Polish at:

I hope you enjoyed my post today and I’d love for you to come visit me in my natural habitat over at www.thelazylaquerista.com.

Happy polishing,

– Michelle

Packaging
I received sample bottles of these. They are 4 fluid ounces each. They came in white round spray bottles with a white label with blue and yellow design. The labels have the product info and directions.

Scent and formula
The smell is just a regular sort of chemical smell. It’s very faint. The Oxy formula has a bit of a fresh scent to it. Both formulas have a clear watery consistency.

Ingredients
I can’t find an ingredient list for either product.

So I’ve been using both of these products for a few weeks now and I am very happy with them. Let me give you a little history. I despise cleaning products. Why? Asthma. Most cleaners kill my lungs. I generally use alcohol or diluted bleach to clean everything. >.> The alcohol scent is gone in seconds and it cleans damn well. When I was sent the Quick Clean Disinfectant and All-Around Oxy cleaner to try I was skeptical. However I got really lucky, because neither of these products bother my lungs. Neither have a very strong smell, they smell like cleaner, but it’s faint and the oxy cleaner has a sort of fresh smell. Once used you can’t smell anything at all. When Sascha had his birthday party I made burgers on the stove. Holy oily mess batman. I used the All-Around Oxy cleaner to clean the stove. Dude. Seriously. I sprayed it, let it sit for a few seconds and wiped it away with a paper towel… I only had to do it once. It killed the oily crap and cleaned it without needing to scrub or go over it again with the spray. I was super impressed. I also use it to clean the counters and the kitchen table. It cleans extremely well and it doesn’t leave any residue. It dries totally clean and non-sticky. It’s pretty awesome.

Now I shall tell you of grossness. Our toilet sucks. It needs to be cleaned every couple of days because it will start to get this black moldy looking stuff inside. So I decided to try something! I sprayed it with the Quick Clean Disinfectant let it sit for a minute and then scrubbed it and flushed. Then I cleaned the whole toilet with the All-Around Oxy. It lasted a week before starting to get any junk in it. I was impressed. I’ve also used the disinfectant on all the door handles and sink handles and chairs and refrigerator handles and so on. It has been a whirlwind of sick so any help is help. I just really like these products. They are easy to use and don’t bother my lungs, which is a huge, huge plus for me. They are also very inexpensive and available in a lot of stores. If you check out Zep’s website you can see where you can get all of their products both online and in stores near you. Definitely check these out, you’ll be pleasantly surprised!

Spirit of the Sprite

Swatches: Leesha’s Lacquer Spirit of the Sprite & The Dominator

press sample

Official descriptions
Spirit of the Sprite is a purple based Jelliter that has a gold to purple shift with gold and purple holo glitter.
The Dominator is a shimmery grey base with small red hex glitter.

Ordering options
You will receive nail lacquer in a 5mL bottle with nail brush, for $3.50 USD per bottle.
You will receive nail lacquer in a 12mL bottle with nail brush, for $7.00 USD per bottle.

Both polishes applied over Wet N Wild Wild Shine Protective Base Coat and under Seche Vite Dry Fast Top Coat! I used 5 coats of Spirit of the Sprite and 3 coats of The Dominator. Photos taken indoors under a daylight bulb.

Spirit of the Sprite is a silvery purple jelly with lots of gold and purple holo glitter and a gold shift.
Ingredients: Suspension Base (Butyl Acetate, Ethyl Acetate, Nitrocellulose, Isopropyl Alcohol, Adipic Acid/Neopentyl, Glycol/Trimellitic Anhydride, Acetyl Tributyl Citrate, Silica, N-Butyl Alcohol, Styrene/Acrylates Copolymer, Benzophenone-1, Violet 2), Glitter and Mica. VEGAN

The Dominator is a shimmery gray base with holographic shimmer and red glitter.
Ingredients: Suspension Base (Butyl Acetate, Ethyl Acetate, Nitrocellulose, Isopropyl Alcohol, Adipic Acid/Neopentyl, Glycol/Trimellitic Anhydride, Acetyl Tributyl Citrate, Silica, N-Butyl Alcohol, Styrene/Acrylates Copolymer, Benzophenone-1, Violet 2), Glitter and Mica. VEGAN

Leesha was looking for people to swatch her new polishes and posted a form to fill out on reddit, I of course filled it out. I don’t get to do much nail-wise on my blog! She sent me little bottles of Spirit of the Sprite and The Dominator. I fell in love with Spirit of the Sprite as soon as I saw it. It’s just gorgeous! The Dominator was pretty, but it wasn’t until I put it on and the holo shimmer went crazy that I was totally wowed! Leesha is coming out with two new collections, the Enchanted collection inspired by mythical and magical creatures of folklore and a collection inspire by the different seasons of American Horror Story! The Dominator is from Season 1 of American Horror Story!

So Spirit of the Sprite is a jelly glitter. The base is sheer and I used 5 coats to get it opaque. It’s a beautiful polish and the gold shift is crazy pretty. I really like it on its own, but I think it would be gorgeous over other polishes. I have a couple in mind I’d like to try it over! The Dominator actually only needed 2 coats to be opaque, but I threw a 3rd one on there because it’s just habit. In the bottle it looks like a shimmery gray polish with red glitter, but once you get it on you can see the gorgeous holo shimmer. It’s so pretty! I really like both formulas and I want to try some of her other polish. :D I can’t wait to see the rest of the colors in the collections. Both collections release on November 25th!

Which color did you like best? Will you pick either up! Have you tried Leesha’s Lacquer before? What did you think?

You can find Leesha’s Lacquer on Etsy. You can contact Leesha through her contact on Etsy. Find her on Facebook and Twitter!

Life. How does it work?

All the sick

Sick again. I was doing better for a few days. Then Fumiko got sick and brought something home. Now Sascha and I are sick again! Luckily I have a doctor’s appointment on Friday. I’m so behind on stuff. I’m going to try to get some posts up this week. I cannot stand the radio silence on my own blog! Ugh. I have AFK Cosmetics new collection to get up. I have a couple of polishes to get up and I have samples of Aromaleigh Cosmetics Sol Invictus collection which is gorgeous btw. I have a makeup back and some other stuff to review too. Oy.

So I shall leave you with a teaser. This is my favorite from Sol Invictus. <3 :GRABBY: :SQUEE:

Weekly Poll: No. 6 What is your favorite type of lip product to wear?

So this weeks question is about your favorite lip product to wear! What’s your favorite type of lip product to wear? There are all kinds of types now!

My answer
My all time favorite thing is lip balm. I always have it with me. In my pocket, in my purse, on the table next to me, there’s some in the car and in the bathroom and my bedroom. >.> I love it. But I also love liquid lipstick. It’s one extreme or the other haha. I hate having to re-apply product. With lip balm I don’t have to worry about needing a mirror. With liquid lipstick, that shit is waterproof and it isn’t coming off all day. My favorite lip balms are from Haus of Gloi and Notoriously Morbid! And my favorite waterproof lipstick right now are these!

What's your favorite type of lip product to wear?

Grisly Grimoires by Notoriously Morbid

Hello Y’all!

Thank you to Luna of Toxid-Lotus for allowing me guest post today! I debated on what I should review and decided on items that I received from my /r/IndieMakeupandMore exchange with /u/Kitty_Party, which by the way was wicked fun and she was amazing in her generosity! Clearly from the title I am reviewing the Grisly Grimoires, 2014 Halloween collection, by Notoriously Morbid which is a company that is near and dear to my heart.

Product CollageNow I need to preface that winter has seriously come to Utah and by time I get home it is dark, so all product swatches are taken under an OtteLite (basically an overpriced daylight lamp). I also did all of these swatches over e.l.f primer.

Just another brief note, I recently received some fabulous advice from /r/photography about ‘freelensing’ and macro filters which I will be doing on all future blog posts so my swatches will be much better! YAY!   Ok enough rambling on to the products!!

This was a limited edition release of 6 full shadows, a mini blush, coffin kisser and a charm. I have to say I am pretty much in love with all of this collection and I opened them in no particular order, or did I?

Kicking off with the Coffin Kisser:

The formula of Notoriously Morbid‘s CK is well known and if you don’t know…you are missing out! This one was colorless lip balm that smells like candy to me and my unsophisticated nose (according to the site it is brandied apricot) and as expected nice and hydrating, perfect for Antarctica winter err I mean Utah winter.

Clavicule of Solomon
Clavicule of Solomon

Surprised I stared with the pink color?? No surprise here, pink colors are my jam and this beautiful pink with a fabulous purple-gold shift.  I am planning to try out a look with this and Teacher in Tweed from their Buffy inspired, Slay Me, collection.

Dragon Rouge
Dragon Rouge

I actually wore this the day after I received my exchange package. I am still in my obsession with coral shadows and this fits the bill! I wish I had snapped a FOTD, I paired this with Femme Fatale Wild Vine and a main stream brown from Tarte Cosmetics on Monday.  There is at least to my eye isn’t a full duo-chrome shift but more a lovely gold shimmer from within. I may horde this for my wedding since we are going to Hawaii and this really says beach to me!

Book of Honorius
Book of Honorius

This color is the exact reason why I need to get a macro lens. There is a great purple shift, IMO. I believe the site mentioned a red shift but it came across more purple to me.

Book of Shadows
Book of Shadows

This color is AMAZEBALLS. I know that I do not own anything like this color in my collection. I really want to just paint it all over my face so everyone can see this amazing dark purple with bright green duo-chrome.

Necronomicon
Necronomicon

This blackened purple is going to be a great lid color and I want to try it as a liner as I am working on improving my liner skills. I thought I had something similar in my collection but so far I have not found an exact dupe which of course is awesome!

Magus
Magus

Such a bright sparkling blue with a pinkish-purple shift. I think this will be so much fun during the holiday season to wear. It really makes me think of Elsa from Frozen, LOL .

And the last piece ….

Grand Oracle Blush
Grand Oracle Blush

It was almost ironic that right before my package arrived I was realizing that I have about three blushes that I wear almost exclusively out of the 5 that I own. The three that I wear really are summer type blushes that worked well in the perpetual summer that is Phoenix. I was debating about adding a few winter colors to my collection and then this beauty arrived. The only down side to this blush, it is not apart of the NM core collection…hint hint Carrie ;) . This matte blush is to die for! I love me a good matte blush and the mauve color is perfect for winter and for sure is a color that I do not have and I am really glad it is now in my life :) .

Sneak Peek:

Included was a Black Friday Sneak Peek in

Nothing Is Trivial
Nothing Is Trivial

This is a shimmery silvery blue that really would make a lovely highlight shade.

DO NOT MISS THE BLACK FRIDAY SALE! Notoriously Morbid does a limited year long coupon among other amazing LE items. Fine them here!

Thank you again Toxid-Lotus allowing me and my humble blog come hang out for the day!

Hugs!

Weekly Poll

Weekly Poll: No. 5 Do you use your makeup when you’re sick?

This poll is a day late. T.T I’ve been sick. I caught whatever sickness Sascha came home with last Thursday. I thought I was out of the woods cause yay no puking. But then I ate a cracker and it promptly decided to come back up and say hello. So. Ugh.

Anyways. In the spirit of sickness, Do you use your makeup when you’re sick?

My answer
I don’t. I’m a paranoid thing about contamination. I have too many shades I can’t get again, and also can’t afford to run out and replace something because I was dumb and got my sick all over it. XD

What about you?

What's your favorite type of lip product to wear?
