Thursday Guest Post!

Swimming In Once Upon a Time Inspired Indie Shadows

Hey, all! Destiny from Bellibone Beauty here for Guest Post Thursday! I’m so excited to be posting on Toxid Lotus, and Luna is a doll for having me.

If you know me, I’m fairly obsessed with Once Upon a Time. My tumblr feed consists of swarms of CaptainSwan gifsets and fanfics, and I have no shame. So, naturally, when indie companies release Once Upon a Time inspired products, I vacuum them up unabashedly. I’ve been rewatching the show to fill the sad void between seasons, and today I decided to share my little hoard with you! I’m swatching Darling Girl’s Fairy Tale Romance Collection and the shadows from Notoriously Morbid‘s May Vanishing Cabinet. Darling Girl has released a companion collection to Fairy Tale Romance, named Wicked is Coming, but I haven’t received my order yet. I wait impatiently..

Let’s dig in, shall we? All products purchased by me, and all opinions are my own. Swatches are taken over bare skin and Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer Potion on the top row, and Fyrinnae Pixie Epoxy on the bottom. Italicized information is taken directly from the corresponding brand website.

02 If I Only Had a Heart

If I Only Had a Heart (Darling Girl): pale cream with gold sheen and gold iridescence

Inspired by the short-lived Sheriff Graham, this is a pale highlighter shade with a subtle golden iridescence. I use this as an inner corner highlight as well as a facial highlight.

03 Dearie

Dearie (Notoriously Morbid): description unavailable

Who hasn’t ever looked at Rumple’s crocodile skin and wanted an eyeshadow with that gorgeous golden glow? This is a muddied olive-brown with an antique gold shine.

04 Misthaven

Misthaven (Notoriously Morbid): description unavailable

Though it’s commonly referred to as the Enchanted Forest, the actual name of the realm is Misthaven. You only hear it called that once or twice, don’t ask me why. This is a muted forest green with a murky cornflower shift to it.

05 Hot as Baelfire

Hot as Baelfire (Darling Girl): mid tone matte plummy brown

While some may have been smitten by Charming or Graham, I was head over heels for Baelfire. Charming and sincere, and oh lordy that smile. This is a matte plummy brown, and I have no idea why I thought it would be a good idea to swatch it over Pixie Epoxy. It was a nightmare. (Mattes and glitter adhesive do not mix for obvious reasons.)

06 Always the Queen

Always the Queen (Notoriously Morbid): description unavailable

Oh, Regina. I am so often conflicted by you. At the very least, I love to hate you, and I might never trust you. This is a cranberry-toned red with a strong metallic copper shift. If you don’t apply this shadow over a glitter adhesive, you’re missing out! (Why my Pixie Epoxy swatch picture turned out so warm is beyond me..)

07 You Want Darkness

You Want Darkness? (Notoriously Morbid): description unavailable

Being so heavily influenced by fairy tales, Once Upon a Time deals with a lot of common themes, including the constant battle between your inner darkness and light. After the Season 4 finale, I am ready to embrace the dark side. This is a smokey purple with silver shimmer, and it reminds me of the purple smoke that is associated with dark magic in the show.

08 Let's Hook Up

Let’s Hook Up (Darling Girl): blackened green base with holographic gold sparkle and green and orange sparkle

Mm mm mm. Once Killian Jones stepped into the ring, I forgot all about Baelfire. Sultry, passionate, and surprisingly classy for a pirate. His eyebrow raises induce embarrassing amounts of squealing. This is such a perfect shadow for Hook! It’s a deep black base with gold and green sparkle. This is a crazy glittery shadow, so anyone without a glitter adhesive has now been forewarned. It gets everywhere.

That wraps up my guest post today! Thank you so much for reading, and thanks again to Luna for having me!

Review: The Gatekeeper’s Trilogy by Eva Pohler

press sample

Official description
A young adult fantasy about the ancient gods in modern times.

A teen becomes entangled with the gods of Mount Olympus when one of them, Thanatos, the god of death, wants his chance at love. He makes a deal with his father, Hades, to go to the upperworld to win Therese’s heart, but not all the gods are happy.

Part paranormal romance and part adventure story, this trilogy follows Therese’s adventures as she struggles to overcome the challenges the gods dish her in her quest to become like them.

Follow Therese’s adventures as she strives to become a goddess in the ancient Greek pantheon.

Where to buy
From Amazon – For $5.98 USD.
From Barnes&Noble – For $5.98 USD.
From Google Play – For $6.14 USD.

This trilogy includes The Gatekeeper’s Sons, The Gatekeeper’s Challenge and The Gatekeeper’s Daughter. The book series is geared towards teens, but I enjoyed it. My son is a HUGE fan of Greek Mythology and because of that I’ve spent my fair share of time learning about it. These books were refreshing to read(because they weren’t sexual. I’ve been reading the Anita Blake series >.> ) and a little bit morbid, which I like. I don’t think my son would enjoy these as he’s at a point where he doesn’t really enjoy anything having to do with a love story and these are about a Greek God who falls in love with a girl, who in turn falls in love with him, despite all the crazy stuff they have to go through. I do think however my daughter will love these when she’s a little older. (I’m still going to try to get my son to read them, I still think he’d enjoy them despite the looooove) Overall these are good books and would be great for the teen who doesn’t just want to read about a love story, but wants to read about fighting and pain too.

Gentle Black Sugar Facial Polish
Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Black Strap Powder, Cetyl Ethylhexanoate, Petrolatum, Glycerin, Tocopheryl Acetate, Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea Butter), Candelilla Wax Esters, Peg-7 Glyceryl Cocoate, Polysorbate 20, Beeswax, Cetyl Alcohol, Glycyrrhiza Glabra (Licorice) Root Powder, Fragrance, Carapa Guaianensis Seed Oil, Vaccinium Macrocarpon (Cranberry) Seed Oil.

Ugh. I am a bad blogger. I should have posted this review MONTHS ago. It has been sitting in my drafts because I just never finished writing the review. d= I’m awful. But I’m finishing it now! Wishtrend sent me these products to review. I’d never tried anything from KLAIRS before. I have to gush for a second. I LOVE these two products. They are amazing together and the scrub smells so yummy. The cleansing oil removes all makeup for me. It smells a little nutty and floral. At first the scent was a little odd, but after a few uses I got use to it and like it. It’s really moisturizing and soothing and it cleanses so well. The scrub. Oh gosh. I wish the scrub came in a bigger jar. It smells SO GOOD. It’s really exfoliating but gentle on the skin. It also leaves my skin really moisturized. When used together, omg, it’s amazing. I like to put on the cleansing oil and smoosh it around my face for a couple of minutes, then add the scrub to it and scrub, scrub, scrub my face. After rinsing it off my skin is baby butt soft and my pores appear smaller and my skin just feels so good. I feel like my face is fresh and plump and my serums and moisturizer absorb so well. I don’t have to use as much either. I love this stuff.

Seriously. I didn’t expect to like it so much. I have a love/hate relationship with cleansing oils. They usually get in my eyes and make my vision all blurry for a few minutes after, and sometimes they make me breakout. But this cleansing oil is like a christmas miracle. So far it hasn’t bothered my eyes and it doesn’t cause me breakouts. Also oddly enough, other sugar scrubs have made me break out horrible, but this one? Magic. Magic you guys. Yes, I was sent these to try and yes this is seriously my honest opinion. They are magic and you need to try them. The only bummer is that shipping takes a long time. These items ship from Korea, so expect a wait. It is however well worth the wait. :) Wishtrend was really easy to work with. I didn’t have any problems with my order. The person I worked with for this order was really great and I definitely recommend their shop. Super nice people. Also I got some samples and uh I lost them somewhere in our room. I’m sure one day I’ll find them. >.> So the bottom line really is that these products are amazing and Wishtrend is a pretty awesome shop with nice peoples. Go buy them. Go. Run. Don’t walk. Run. Go. BUY THEM.

The links to the products and Wishtrend are affiliate links. If you decide to order it would be awesome if you used one of my links. I get a little bit back when someone makes a purchase. :d If you shop with mah link, then thank you very much. <3

Evil League of Evil almost reminds of of the Strip, but not. It’s a gorgeous neutral-y shade to me. I’m not a huge fan of greens but I really like the shade and sparkle of Wonderflonium and Terrible Death Whinny is just a gorgeous, gorgeous brown. All of the shadows and the face products in this collection are super smooth and buttery and easy to apply. The blush blends extremely well and is easy to wear light or build it up. It’s a beautiful peachy coral shade. It’s a great collection!

life2

OMG life. What? Whyy?

This week is crazy for me. I have appointments every day but Monday. I am so tired. Yesterday I saw a sleep specialist and have to go back on the 23rd to spend the night so they can test me. I don’t know how that’s going to go because I have to sleep, but I haven’t been sleeping so that’s why I saw them. Poop. Today I saw an allergy specialist and found out I have Oral Allergy Syndrome. Which explains why I get gut wrenching pain when I eat some foods. So I have a list of things I shouldn’t eat:

  • Alder pollen: almonds, apples, celery, cherries, hazel nuts, peaches, pears, parsley, strawberry, raspberry
  • Birch pollen: almonds, apples, apricots, avocados, bananas, carrots, celery, cherries, chicory,  coriander, fennel, fig, hazel nuts, kiwifruit, nectarines, parsley, parsnips, peaches, pears, peppers, plums, potatoes, prunes, soy, strawberries, wheat; Potential: walnuts
  • Grass pollen: fig, melons, tomatoes, oranges, celery, peach
  • Mugwort pollen : carrots, celery, coriander, fennel, parsley, peppers, sunflower
  • Ragweed pollen : banana, cantaloupe, cucumber, green pepper, paprika, sunflower seeds/oil, honeydew, watermelon, zucchini, echinacea, artichoke, dandelions, honey (if bees pollinate from wild flowers),hibiscus or chamomile tea
  • Possible cross-reactions (to any of the above): berries (strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, etc), citrus (oranges, lemons, etc), grapes, mango, figs, peanut, pineapple, pomegranates, watermelon

Yeah that’s lovely. I also talked to him about Fumiko because she too is allergic to apples and pears and other various foods give her stomach aches. He told me it’s very likely she has the same thing going on. Ugh. Why life? Why? So I am to pull all these things from our diet and slowly add stuff back to see which things we react to. If we react to it then we don’t eat it. He said I may have issues with the whole damn list or just certain things. Lucky me, I can already cross a few things off that I know I can’t eat. This is going to be fun. Tomorrow I have a meeting at NARA to deal with my disability stuff. Woo. My body is protesting everything right now. My bones ache, my muscles burn and have shooting pains, my joints are stiff and hurt and the joints around my fingers and wrist are swollen. My brain is out to lunch. I had little and big dots all over my arms earlier from the allergy test. Dude some of those spots itched and burned like a mofo. It was all I could do not to scratch the crap out of them. d= But hey at least I have some answers. Now if only I could get answers on the rest of my body. *sigh*

Next week I have a doctors appointment, then a home visit that afternoon, then therapy the next day, then therapy for Sascha the day after that. So much for my poor body. At least our brussels sprouts and sweet potatoes and spinach and kale are okay. We just have to do more now. xd I’m so grateful my kids like vegetables and will eat them. And chia seeds they like those. Oh and hummus. Om nom nom. Tonight for dinner we shall have buffalo chicken and broccoli. I found a mild buffalo sauce and the kids are all over it. Fumiko wanted me to buy every bottle on the shelf. Thankfully there was only two. I must go now. My arms are beyond screaming at me right now and are threatening to protest me.
