Thursday Guest Post- All About Bobbie

Hey there, everyone! My name is Bobbie, and I’m your guest poster today! I suppose I ought to introduce myself- I’m a 122-year-old textile artist from eastern Canada. My hobbies include knitting, weaving, drawing, and listening to loud music. Of course, I also blog about indie makeup at All About Bobbie, which is the main reason why I’m here.

I was having a bit of trouble figuring out what to do for this post- most of the companies I would do an overview of would just be reposted information from my blog anyway. Then, as I went to put on lipstick after having my photo taken for a picture ID, it hit me. If there’s anything I know about besides really bad movies about sharks and music about how hard it is to be a teenager that no girls love, it’s blue lipstick. While I dabble with other colours, I can’t get over my love for the blues. They were what led me to indie in the first place, and now here I am. So, may I present to you, Bobbie’s Current Top Five Favourite Blue Lipsticks!

I must note before I start in that this is 100% my opinion. For example, there are very few lip glosses I like ever, so blue gloss is kind of unrepresented. There are a bunch of nice ones out there, but I’ve not fallen madly for any of them yet. As well, I’m half-vampire, so light blue shades don’t look that great on me and there aren’t any here.

Honourable Mention- Shiro’s Robe And Wizard Hat Intertube

I put on my robe and wizard hat. On my face, that is.

This one doesn’t get a place on the list since you can’t actually buy it anywhere. It’s kind of a pity, since this is my go-to blue on days when my lips are really gross and chapped. For an opaque blue, it has a surprisingly moisturizing formula, and the subtle gold sparkle is a nice touch.  If someone randomly offers you this on the street corner or something, take it, it’s nice.

5- Alchimia Apothecary lipstick in Abyssal

When you look into the Abyssal, the Abyssal looks into you.

Available here. Alchimia is also discontinuing their cosmetics, but the lipsticks are still available. Their formula is quite nice- a good blend of going on opaque and staying around for a while. Sometimes you have to build up the colour, but it’s a pretty good deal. Abyssal is a very bright blue with a bit of shimmer, but not as much as Robe And Wizard Hat.

4- My Beauty Addiction’s HD Lip Paint in Indigo

It's hard to make a pun about indigo.

It’s hard to make a pun about indigo.

Available here. MBA actually has a lot of different blues, but Indigo is one of my favourites. It’s a bright blue with warm purple undertones. I really do like the Lip Paints- they have a nice, thick, creamy formula that stays opaque for ages. The only issue is that it tends to stain the lip. Since I wear lipstick every day anyway, it’s less of an issue for me, but if you need to not look like a zombie bare-faced, the HD Lip Paints might not be for you.

3- BeautyBarBaby’s Opulent Opaque Lipstick in Frozen

Ice, ice, baby.

Ice, ice, baby.

Available here. I’m a new convert to BeautyBarBaby’s lipsticks, but I really do like the highly pigmented formula. If you live anywhere warmer than here you might need to refrigerate them once in a while, but mine are good at room temperature. This is another bright blue, but it’s a bit more tone-down and cooler than the others. For, you know, your low-key blue lipstick days.

2- Fierce Magenta’s Midnight Sky

Goin' up to the spirit in the Midnight Sky.

Goin’ up to the spirit in the Midnight Sky.

Available here. It was hard trying to figure out which of my Fierce Magenta lipsticks would make the number 2 spot, since anyone who knows me knows I will talk about them at any opportunity. The lipsticks are among the best indie lipsticks I’ve found. They’re creamy, moisturizing, and last a respectable amount of time. It eventually came down to “which is the most stereotypically goth” and Midnight Sky easily won that category. It’s a shimmery dark navy blue that’s almost black. It’s still one of my go-to colours.

1- Melt Cosmetics’ DGAF

I'll stop the world and melt with you.

I’ll stop the world and melt with you.

Available here upon occasion. Melt is often sold out of this, as well as other shades like 6six6 and Bane, which I also desperately want. It’s also a bit pricier than the rest. I don’t know if I would have it if it wasn’t gifted to me. That said, I am so happy I do. It’s a matte royal blue, and it’s actually one of the longest-lasting lipsticks I own. This has lasted me through pasta before. If you can get your hands on it, do so- you won’t be disappointed. (And if you are, I’ll buy it off you, since I can always do with a spare.) The colour is lovely, the formula is lovely, and even the packaging is nice and nonoffensive.

So, there you have it. My six go-to blues, out of the many blues I own. Thanks for reading- I’m going to go look over all the lipsticks I have and try and figure out why I have so many.

About me

Canadian goth, a bit too obsessed with indie makeup, with a knitting degree and a touch too much hair.

  • Bobbie looks fabulous for 122 and I suddenly need Melt DGAF! *starry eyes*

    • … I promise that, no matter how it may appear, I really am not a vampire born in Victorian times and languishing for blue lipstick throughout most of my life. Really. That was a typo.

DGAF is amazing, and I do apologize for introducing it to you at a time when it’s not in stock. (They do restock relatively regularly, though.)
