Directions
Performance Peel AP25
First, cleanse the face with a gentle, effective cleanser such as Exuviance Purifying Cleansing Gel.

Step 1. Apply a Step 1 Activator Pad over the entire face, avoiding eye area, lips and any area of sensitivity. Then discard pad. Carefully monitor the skin’s response to the Peel by observing any redness or discomfort, including stinging, burning, itching, tightness, tingling and peeling.

Step 2. Apply a Step 2 Neutralizer Pad to the face after 10 minutes, or sooner if you experience bothersome redness or discomfort. Apply over entire face (avoiding eyes and lips), and then rinse the face thoroughly with water.

You may leave the (Step 1) Activator Solution on your skin for up to, or as long as 10 minutes, and no longer than 10 minutes. Some people may experience some bothersome dryness or stinging during the 10 minute time frame the activator solution in on their face. For those skin types we suggest applying the (Step 2) Neutralizer Solution earlier than 10 minutes, or as soon as you experience the stinging sensation if you find it bothersome. As with all Hydroxy Acid peels, a slight tingling sensation is expected, but if this sensation is too much, we recommend neutralizing the peel sooner than the total 10 minute time.

OptiLight Essential 6 Serum
Using fingertips, gently apply serum to cleansed face. Can be smoothed all over the face and neck or applied to specific areas. Gently massage any remaining excess into the skin. Can be used alone or under treatment and moisturizer. Daily use of a sunscreen is recommended as part of a healthy skincare regimen.

Evening Restorative Complex
Gently smooth over a cleansed face and neck in the evening. Daily use of a sunscreen is recommended as part of a healthy skin care regimen.

Packaging
I received sample packages! The Optilight Essential 6 Serum came in a silvery gray pump with green features. The Evening Restorative Complex came in a white squeeze tube with green features and the peels came in a clear cellophane baggie with an information card. the step 1 peel comes in a teal foil packet with white and pink features and the step 2 came in a silver foil packet with pink and white and teal features. Both pads are textured round cotton pads.

Scent and formula
The pads spell like acid. If you’ve ever smelled the sulfuric acid stuff they use to unclog drains, it smells like a light version of that. It’s not awful, but it doesn’t smell good. The neutralizer pad doesn’t have much of a scent at all. The liquid on the pads is quite this and clear. The Evening Restorative Complex smells lightly of apricots. I quite like the smell of it. It’s a thick cream that has a very faint green tint to it. The OptiLight Essential 6 Serum smells kind of like one of those gel peel masks. Kind of an aloe, cucumber, alcohol mix with a tiny bit of a fruit scent. I’ve smelled it before, I just can’t place it. I don’t like cucumbery scents so it’s not quite a pleasant scent for me, but it doesn’t smell bad. It’s a fresh scent. It’s a clear, thick liquid.

So I liked some and didn’t like some! We shall start with what I didn’t like. It took me awhile to get this review up and I shall tell you why! White I really liked the texture, feel and smell of the Evening Restorative Complex, my skin didn’t like it. After a few days of using it I started getting some bad clusters of white heads and acne on my cheeks and chin. I really wanted to like this, it’s a good formula, it felt good on and it has high praise, but I ended up stopping it because the white heads and acne were getting worse not better. I had to let my skin settle and clear up before I started the serum. This is supposed to make your skin smoother, increase skin elasticity, even skin tone and improve fine lines. It’s supposed to overall improve skin texture, tone and appearance. Unfortunately I wasn’t able to test it for very long and I didn’t notice many of these things. It did make my skin feel plump after I applied it. I would need to test it a lot longer than a few days to see any improvements in these(smoothness, even skin tone and skin elasticity). Instead it made my skin angry. It took a couple of weeks but it cleared up and my skin went back to the way it was before I tried the Evening Restorative Complex.

Unfortunately I had the same problem with the serum. :( After just a few days I started getting white head clusters and this time the acne was worse. I still have a couple of big bumps. If you noticed the two giant mountains on my chin in my last FOTDS, those popped up in adition to smaller ones and white heads from this serum. d= So again I stopped using it. I didn’t want to take any chances on anything worse happening. This is supposed to help fade dark spots and discourage new ones from forming, even skin pigment, brighten skin and overall provide a more balanced and luminous complexion. Unfortunately I didn’t notice any of these things. I didn’t use it long enough to start to have any results. I’m not sure what ingredient or ingredients in these two formulas is not agreeing with my skin, but it’s really unfortunate. There are a few things in both formulas that could be causing the white heads and acne break outs. I wanted to love them and I hate having to write a less than stellar review of a product. You can see the CosDNA reports on the Evening Restorative Complex here and the OptiLight Essential 6 Serum here.

Now onto what I love! I love, love, love these pads. This has turned me onto Mandelic Acid. I have used other acids before, but not Mandelic Acid, I think that is the ingredient that my skin really loved with these pads, as I have not had such amazing results with other acid products. The Performance Peel AP25 is a set of cotton pads. Step 1 is the activator pad with Glycolic Acid, Mandelic Acid and Gluconolactone. They work together to exfoliate dead, dull surface layers, and stimulate the process of cell renewal among all skin layers.

Quick run down on Mandelic Acid
Mandelic Acid is an alpha hydroxy acid. Derived from bitter almonds, it has a number of benefits for the skin.

The molecular structure of mandelic acid is larger than better known alpha hydroxy acids such as glycolic acid and lactic acid. This means it takes longer to penetrate the skin’s surface and is much less irritating.

Rapidly exfoliates dead skin cells and surface debris from the skin.
Mandelic acid has antimicrobial/antibacterial properties, making it an excellent choice for all types of acne, including cystic acne.
Loosens blackheads for easy extraction.
Cleans and refines pores.
Refines the tone and texture of the skin, brightens.
Mandelic acid is excellent for clients with darker skin tones. It does not cause the unwanted, lighter skin tone changes that you might experience with other AHA’s.
Mandelic acid inhibits the growth of melanin, the cause of brown patches, freckles, uneven skin tone and other sun-related skin care issues.
Mandelic acid, with continued use, can help repair sun damaged skin.
Mandelic acid reduces lines and wrinkles without the irritation of other AHA’s.
Mandelic is typically an excellent exfoliator for clients suffering from Rosacea.
I also wanted to point out that Mandelic Acid is antibacterial.

Quick run down on Glycolic Acid
Glycolic acid is part of the group of active compounds known as AHA’s (alpha hydroxy acids). Derived from cane sugar.

It has the smallest molecules in the group so is able to penetrate skin deeply and easily, making it the most effective for treating fine lines, acne, blackheads, dullness, oiliness etc.

Glycolic acid provides a remarkably even exfoliation of the skin
Glycolic acid releases and dissolves dead skin cells – clearing up blocked pores and blackheads.
Glycolic acid a very effective acne treatment – particulary cystic acne which is caused by deep blockages of dead skin cells and sebum.
Glycolic acid reduces fine lines and signs of premature aging by increasing cell turnover – meaning younger healthier cells are now visible on the skin’s surface.
Acne scars (and other scar lesions) respond well to consistent glycolic acid treatment.
Further products and treatments can penetrate deeper as it removes the ‘barrier’ of dead cells and surface grime.
Glycolic acid minimizes the appearance of pores by keeping them clear and helping the surrounding cells to strengthen and regain elasticity .

Quick run down on Gluconolactone
Gluconolactone is a type of polyhydroxy acid, or PHA, that is called the next generation of alpha-hydroxy-acids by NeoStrata researchers who discovered their benefits. Polyhydroxy acids like gluconolactone have similar benefits to AHAs, but they have some additional benefits as well. The molecules of glucolactone are larger with a chemical structure that attracts and holds more water. This makes them well-suited for dry and sensitive skin.

Gluconolactone is a natural substance derived from gluconic acid. This important chemical is found in the bodies of many mammals. In animals, it is used to break down carbohydrates during digestion, so that their sugars can be used to produce the energy needed to power cellular activity. When gluconolactone is produced for use in products, it is typically derived from gluconic acid that has been manufactured in a laboratory, rather than extracted from a natural source.

Gluconolactone is also an antioxidant and anti-inflammatory that helps to protect skin against the harmful effects of free radicals created by sun exposure. Because gluconolactone reduces inflammation, it may be helpful for treating acne and rosacea. One study showed that gluconolactone treated acne as well as benzoyl peroxide with fewer side effects. Like alpha-hydroxy-acids, PHAs like gluconolactone lighten areas of pigmentation over time with regular use.

PHAs like gluconolactone appear to be safe, but using them regularly thins out the outer layer of the skin called the epidermis. This makes skin look brighter and more youthful, but it also makes skin more susceptible to sun damage since the protective epidermal layer is thinner. That is why it is advisable to use a daily sunscreen in conjunction with products containing gluconolactone.

Okay so. This peel is full of acid awesomeness and my skin loved it. First you apply the activator pad. I expected to feel much burning and for my face to turn red, however I felt minimal burning, it was more of a slight warm, tingly sensation and my face didn’t turn red. If you do experience burning and redness you can use the neutralizer pad early, if you don’t then after 10 minutes you use the neutralizer pad. Once I applied the neutralizer pad the warm tingly sensation completely disappeared. Then you rinse your face and carry on with your normal skincare routine. I have used these twice, I still have my 3rd one. I am testing some new skincare products so I’ve waited to use it. But man. These things are miracles. My pores become nearly invisible, my skin looks super clear and any redness I have disappears. It doesn’t dry my skin, but my skin feels supple and plump, soft and normal after. These are supposed to help with fine lines & wrinkles, even out skin tone and texture and create and overall radiance. I don’t have wrinkles, even if I did I would need to use these for longer to see how it works, so I can’t attest to how it works with that, but it did do everything else it claimed! I wish I were rich so I could keep myself well stocked in these. Using it twice a week like it suggests would be amazing. Unfortunately these are way out of my price range(what price range. hahaha). But if you can afford them, seriously, run, don’t walk and buy them. They are amazing. You can find the CosDNA reports for the activator pads here and the neutralizer pads here.

So two of the three things were a miss, but the peel pads more than make up for the other two misses. Have I mentioned I love them? Cause I do. <3 Have you tried any of these products? How did they work for you?
