Ombrè lips

Thursday Guest Post!
Hi amigos! I’m Dimitri from Superdimitri and I’ve been invited to make a Guest post, so here I am.

I was thinking about a topic and since I was out of inspiration for a full makeup look and a product review wasn’t a good idea (since Luna is the best doing that), I decided to show you guys these looks inspired by the ombrè (gradient) trend.

Ombrè is everywhere in the fashion & beauty industry, so you can search for a lot of inspirational images -that’s what I did. I made these lips looks based on this trend, I hope you like it.

Although these looks might appear hard to achieve, they’re actually quite easy to do and I enjoyed a lot when working on them: they allow you  to create hundreds of possibilities, sky is the limit.

Actually I made all these in less than an hour!

Ombrè lips are a pain in the arse for a daily look since you have to carry every shade you used with you for re-applying, so keep that in mind whenever you decide to create a gradient  look.

What do you guys think about this trend?

Waxing and earrings and things, oh my!

What? They totally go together! :shifty: I sold a second pair of earrings today while I was at the therapist! Thanks Krista! ^.^ I can’t wait for the supplies I ordered last night to come in. Making jewelry is addicting. :( I’m already wanting to make necklaces/bracelets. Oh noes! I need to invest in some organizers to put my beads in. Leaving them in the baggies doesn’t work out so well.

Onto waxing! So I tried some time ago to make my own sugaring mix and tried waxing my legs myself. It kind of failed miserably. In certain areas on my leg it would remove hair just fine, in others… not so much. In the places it did yank out hair I developed bumps and a rash and horrible ingrown hairs. It’s safe to say I’ll never try to wax my legs again. Also word of advice, don’t google waxing bumps or such, you’ll regret it. I promise.

I do however wax my underarms. I have a little wax pan that I originally purchased for waxing my face(which is horribly painful. T.T ), and then started using it on my underarms. It’s surprisingly painless most of the time. Though about every other time, it’s horribly painful. :( I keep hoping my body with give up and be like “Dude she’s gonna keep waxing, just give up!”. But yeah. If you’re afraid of waxing your underarms, I’d try it out a couple of times. It’s so nice to not have to shave your underarms every single day.

P.S. Halfway through the first hunger games book. I like it so far. I’m excited to get through the first book and read the other two.

Tutorial: How To Do a Winged Eyeliner – Guest Post

Thursday Guest Post!
Hello, Lady Bethezda here from Bethezda’s Preoccupations. Luna has graciously asked me to do a guest post for you guys. Enjoy!

Ever wondered how to get a perfect winged eyeliner effect? Have trouble placing your wing or getting it straight? I have a few tips and tricks here that will hopefully help you on your way to the perfect winged eyeliner.

First you’ll want to gather your tools.

Choose which type of makeup brush you are comfortable with using. I prefer to use a short angled brush most of the time but I also like a bent liner brush and sometimes a straight liner brush. It kind of depends on how much coffee I’ve had that day and how steady my hand feels. ^.~ Here I have pictured #37 Studio Gear brush (bottom), elf angled eyeliner brush (center) and a Paula Dorf eyeliner brush (top). The Studio Gear brush (found at Ulta) is a dupe of MAC #266. I used to be a makeup artist for Studio Gear so I have a lot of their brushes. They have lasted me over ten years though so I can vouch that they are good. This angled brush is my go-to for eyeliner and eyebrows but different people have different preferences which is why I have showed three types of brushes that would be good to do a winged liner.

I suggest starting out using a dark powder to draw on your eyeliner. That way if you make a mistake it’s easier to remove and start over. Once you like the placement of the powder you can go back over it with a gel or liquid liner. I’m using a cheap Maycheer brow duo I got off of ebay. Any dark powder or shadow will do.

Now onto the placement of your wing.

I’ve started here with a neutral eye using Detrivore White Chapel and Nyph. I have no eyeliner on in this picture. (Disclaimer: I do have my eyeliner tattooed but as you can see from the pic, it has almost all worn off. Soooo not worth it, just FYI).

Now to place the wing, use the end of a thin makeup brush and draw an invisible line from the outer corner of your eye to the outer edge of your eyebrow. This is the “line” you will want to follow for making your wing.

Now with a bit of powder on your brush, try to follow the invisible line you just “drew”. Aim for taking the wing out toward the end of your eyebrow. As you can see from the pictures I have heavily hooded eyelids so I find that any wing I draw gets covered with my eyelid unless I take the wing out pretty far. You will have to experiment with how far you would like your wing to go. I like to have a dramatic look so I sometimes take mine almost all the way to the brow. It’s just something you’ll need to play with.

Now from the end of the wing, draw another line back toward the upper lash line on the lid.

And fill in the triangle that you have created. Also go ahead and draw your eyeliner onto the rest of the upper lash line.

If you are worried about getting the line super straight another little trick is to use Scotch tape. Just place a piece of tape on the same invisible line you have “drawn”.

This is also great to do when you are using loose dark eyeshadows or eyeshadows that have a lot of loose glitter. It keeps the fallout from collecting under your eyes. I personally don’t like to use tape too often because it does pull on the delicate skin under the eyes. I’ve got enough crows feet forming naturally, I don’t need to help them along! But…for a special look I will bust out the tape.

Now just draw your line along the edge of the tape like above. This way though you don’t have to worry about keeping your hand steady.

Once you are happy with how your liner looks you can go over it with a gel or liquid liner. Here I’ve used Physicians Formula gel liner in black and then added two coats of MAC Zoom Lashes mascara.

Now carefully and slowly pull the tape off and you should have a nice crisp line.

A good rule of thumb is to always keep a few q-tips and some eye makeup remover nearby when you’re doing your makeup for quick cleanup. Or, if you’re like me and need to wear a pretty heavy foundation and don’t want to make “holes” in it you can use a q-tip or small concealor brush dipped in your foundation to whisk away small mistakes. This is also how I clean up my brows since I draw them on.

Once you’ve got the hang of it you can start to get crazy and creative with it. I like to add another line on the bottom for a “double wing” effect. Just remember, the more that you practice, the easier it will get.

I hope that this tutorial may have helped some of you. If you have other suggestions I’d LOVE to hear them. I’m always amazed at the great little tricks my readers give me.

You can check out my full blog at Bethezda’s Preoccupations HERE. Thank you so much for reading and a SUPER BIG THANKS to Luna of toxid-lotus for allowing me to share with you guys. :)

Cheers!

My Top Ten Indie List

In no particular order(and by no particular order I apparently meant alphabetical order…) I’m going to list my top ten favorite indie companies and then I’m gonna tag a few people to do the same. ;)

  1. Cocoa Pink – oh man. I fell in love with her scent fear of cemeteries. It’s amazing. She was going to drop her hallow’s eve scents and I bugged her on a few occasions to keep it. Luckily someone suggested changing the name to Dirty Carnation which she liked so yay it stays. I’m in love with her voluptuous body butter and her bubbling scrub is pretty awesome too. Her shampoo is awesome and it makes a great kitty wash. ;)
  2. Darling girl Cosmetics – Susan has a million and one shades of shadow to choose from. She has some beautiful shadow colors, but I especially like her colored lip balms and her lip scrub in a tube. If you haven’t purchased anything with the rose/passionfruit scent you’re missing out. She also has cream blushes which are awesome, especially Pink no Corisu. ;)
  3. Detrivore Cosmetics – Oh man Distorria has some gorgeous shadows. She also lives within driving distance of me so I get to pick up my packages in person. Woot! I love the theme to her shadows, I love their creepy names and they’re just beautiful. A little birdie also told me that she’ll be selling perfume oils soon too. ;) If you don’t own Omen you need to remedy that. GORGEOUS purple!
  4. Evil Shades Cosmetics – oh man. She has beautiful lippies and shadows and everything. She made a shadow after me called Toxic Lotus, it’s gorgeous, you should get it along with Eplefe and um all of her other shadows. If you like pink lipstick you have to get Fearless, it’s freaking amazing, and Deception? Perfect freaking nude. I want all of her lippies and shadows and blushes, and okay pretty much everything she sells. Her spectrum pots and primer have been the longest lasting eye primers as well. Check them out. ;) Also drooling over her holiday shades!
  5. innocent+twisted alchemy – Gosh these colors are beautiful. They remind me of the old Aromaleigh formulas. They’re just shiny and complex and pretty. She offers sample pods/clamshells and she fills them to the brim, she’s also a sweetheart and does all the art for her company. She’s very talented. Twisted is one of the most amazing colors ever, and I love Innocent as well, I love all of her shades and can’t wait to get my claws on her holiday set.
  6. Linnaeus Cosmetics – Okay so Marin is possibly the sweetest, cutest, quirkiest creeper in the universe. I loves her. Her shadows are rich and beautiful and the formulas are like butter. They’re just wonderful. Plus she was super awesome and made the Axolotl collection for me! *squee* There are no duochromes but her shadows have beautiful sparks of color and look complex. She’s definitely a keeper. Can’t wait for her shop to open back up at the beginning of the year.
  7. Morgana Cryptoria – Oh jeez what can I say, I need one of everything please. She has gorgeous, amazing lippies. I have a few of her balms that are rich and amazing, I’m sad to see them go, but the new glosses and gels look pretty awesome, and she did turn some of the balm colors into glosses. Hooray for diabolical druscilla! I have Azalea and Azalea blue in cute little flower pots that Amanda from Karmic Dreaming sold me during a blog sale. Love them. I currently have an order from her and am trying to patiently wait until Wednesday so I can pay for it. Can’t wait to have more of her lippies!
  8. My Pretty Zombie – Seriously Andrea is a goth Mary Poppins. I kid you not. She’s tied with Marin for cutest, sweetest, quirkiest, most awesomely nice person ever. She’s genuinely nice and aims to please and has the best customer service. Besides her being awesome, she makes amazing shadows, if you want duochromes check her out, because she has some sort of magic touch for duo’s. Kid you not. mNg trio, Husbandry Afflictions collection, monstrous industry, illustrated ink, there are so many pretties it’s hard to choose. PLUS she makes zombie barbies. When I first shopped with her the barbies gave me the creeps, it was mostly the blood painted on, I don’t do well with blood, but now I kinda like them, and kinda want one. She did trade me a zombified barbie hand pendant for a scarf(I’m still making the scarf. >.> ). So check her out cause if you like creepy you’ll like MPZ. Also don’t pass up Unicorn Pee or her MDMA blush of freaking awesome sauce.
  9. One Hand Washes the Other – Becca is a crazy, blunt, firey witch troll that stands over her giant cauldron making black magic soap of amaze. Seriously that stuff is magic. She was also awesome enough to make a glycerin free formula for me, which is even more awesome, AND, AND SHE MADE MY MOST PERFECT SMELL. I Smell Like a Witch is omg perfect. The only thing better is mixing I Smell Like a Witch with Cocoa Pink’s Fear of Cemeteries. It’s like magic and the most amazing smell EVER. I’m counting the minutes until we get paid so I can order creamy soap and everything possible in I Smell Like a Witch. Seriously, right now, I smell like a witch yo and I like it. Also Becca has black magic soap in jars, and soon she shall have scrubby black magic soap in a jar which I can’t wait to try!
  10. Persephone Minerals – Vic is like the queen of duochrome shadows. She’s got some pretties and holy crap if you haven’t seen her Sailor Senshi collections you must go now and see them, they’re amazing and I need them all. NEED, seriously NEED them. They bring back so many awesome memories of watching Sailor Moon, and YES I do love Sailor Moon, so pffft. Vic has amazing colors and her holiday collections are no disappointment. I’ve been swatching them the past few days and they’re beautiful. All I have left to swatch is the reindeer collection and they’ll all be up for your viewing pleasure.

There are other companies that I love as well like Black Rose Minerals, Venomous Cosmetics, Pollen Cosmetics, and yes even Madd Style Cosmetix(please don’t burn me at the stake). They all have beautiful, amazing, quality shadows and you should check them out. I think next time I’ll do a top 15 or 20 list. XD Some of these companies have been around for awhile, others are brand new, but gosh they’re worth checking out and trying. There are some new companies sprouting up that I’d like to try so maybe next time I decide to make a list I’ll have some new companies up, and well a long list. XD

And now I tag Luna, Amanda, Claire, Mandy, Stephanie, Andrea, Sammi, Angela and Taryn.

Let’s see your favorite top ten! ;)
