I was lucky and Influenster sent me the Dessange Paris California Blond VoxBox! I received the California Blonde Brass Color Correcting Crème, California Blonde Illuminating Shampoo and California Blonde Illuminating Conditioner. Let me start off by saying I dye my hair pink but I leave a couple of areas of my hair blonde/white so I was happy to receive these. Even though these are for blonde hair they don’t make my pink fade any faster.

I will start off with the California Blonde Brass Color Correcting Crème. The last couple of times I bleached my hair it didn’t get as white as I’d like. There was still a little yellow to it. Not a lot but more than I wanted. I like this correcting creme because it gets rid of that last little hint of yellow for me and makes it look whiter. It’s also really conditioning on my damaged hair, which I wasn’t really expecting. I can use it as a conditioner on its own or I can use it with other conditioners. It really stands up well on its own on my hair. My hair feels soft after using it and the blonde areas of my hair look white and great. I really like the scent as well. It’s floral but not a sickeningly sweet floral and the scent stays in my hair but it’s not overpowering.

The California Blonde Illuminating Shampoo is pretty awesome. It smells wonderful. It has almost the same scent as the correcting creme, but it’s a little more flowery. I don’t normally like floral scents in hair products because they smell too sweet or old lady for me, but this smells sort of exotic and so pretty. I have used this shampoo on its own and with the conditioner that goes with it. Just on its own this leaves my hair feeling a little more soft and shiny than it usually is. I normally can’t use shampoo a lone, ever. My hair is too damaged from past bleaching and without conditioner it’s a hot, frizzy mess. It cleanses well and doesn’t appear to leave any hair spray residue or anything in my hair. Overall I really like this shampoo. It smells good and works well on my poor hair.

The California Blonde Illuminating Conditioner is awesooooomeeee. It smells just like the shampoo. A pretty floral that smells exotic and yummy. This stuff is super great on my poor damaged hair. It leaves it soft and shiny and smooth. My hair naturally is wavy with some random curls. With the damage my hair isn’t so wavy anymore, it’s just frizzy and dry and ew. This for whatever reason makes my hair more wavy/curly. It’s pretty awesome. This makes my hair so much more manageable and I haven’t had to use any argan oil or other serums with it. Score!

Overall this collection is great. I don’t know if I’ll buy the Color Correcting Creme again. I don’t really use them often. If I were to need one in the future I’d most likely go with this brand, but I probably won’t be really needing it in the future. I will be continuing the shampoo and conditioner though. They work really well on my hair and they smell SO good. The price isn’t too bad and they are sold at Target which is a plus cause you know Target is my favorite store! >.> hehe Anyways I am impressed with these and I kind of want to try the Illuminating Elixir too. We’ll see. Dessange Paris also has some other hair products at Target that I want to go take a look at. I’m wondering if they smell as good as these.

P.S. Pay no attention to my horribly grown out roots. d= They shall be bleached next month hopefully.

Indie Interview with Hello Waffle Cosmetics

Indie Interview: Hello Waffle Cosmetics

I have a new interview! Meet Christine from Hello Waffle Cosmetics!

ChristineWhere are you from?
Mississauga, Ontario! A large suburb outside of Toronto. Our mayor is over 90 years old!

When and why did you start Hello Waffle?
My first purchase with Notoriously Morbid in the fall of 2013 sent me down the indie rabbit hole. I was surprised that such quality products were being handmade by regular people so I was intrigued and decided to start dabbling in creating cosmetics.

How did you come up for the name for Hello Waffle?
I actually didn’t come up with the name! I knew that I wanted my brand name to revolve around cats (crazy cat lady over here) and when brainstorming one night, my boyfriend came up with ‘Hello Waffle’.

What was the first product you made and do you currently still sell it?
My first product were tinted lip balms. I had issues with grainyness so I discontinued them in early June so I could work on the formula. I recently brought them back in March and 6 of the original colours are available :)
I haven’t been able to try the reformulated balms yet, but I’m looking forward to them when I can! Ginger Kitties is calling my name!

DSC_2199How do you choose the name and colors for your products?
Most of my eyeshadows revolve around some sort of cohesive theme so I choose names around that. For my blushes and lip colours that don’t have a theme – I try and pick a name that revolves around its colour. And I love puns, hence colours like “Practice What You Peach”.
I love puns! hehe

Where do you make your products?
Downstairs in my lair – ahem workshop. The entire basement is devoted to my workshop! I have 4 tables and two large shelves down there. And 3 lamps because it gets dark and creepy sometimes.

What sizes do you offer for all of your products?
Sample, halfling, and full sizes.

DSC_2046Will you be making any new products in the future? New collections?
I have an upcoming Greek Gods and Goddesses collection that will debut on May 1st. Each Greek god uses it’s Roman equivalent of TKB’s planetary (colour shifting) pigments. For example, Goddess of Love (Aphrodite)’s Roman equivalent is Venus – so I used TKB’s Travel to Venus pigment in it. :)

I also have a new project I’m working on that I’m really excited about. I can’t spill much details as of yet but I’ve hinted at it before and I want to launch everything in Fall 2015.
I’ve seen some of the sneak peeks and can’t wait to see the rest! I’m kind of dying over Aphrodite and Artemis! I can’t wait to find out what this new project is. =O

Is making makeup your only job?
Yes! Best. Job. Ever!
You are just a little bit lucky lady!

What would you recommend for new customers to try?
My rose golds and purples are fan favourites – 23, Fey, Mendelssohn, Ethereal Voice, Cravings, Hot Cross Bunnies, etc.
I am ones of those fans! I love Hot Cross Bunnies, Ethereal Voice, Fey and Cravings. There are a few more I need to try though!

Would product would you say best represents your company as a whole? And why?
I didn’t come up with the concept but the Catssic Literature collection is amazing. Because cats. And puns. And sparkles.
The Catssic Literature collection is kind of awesome and is on my wishlist. One day it will be mine. The labels are adorable and the colors are so pretty! I always drool when people post swatches or do looks with them. Also cats.

DSC_2268Have you had new colors/products go so awry you just trash them?
Yep! I am actually planning on selling some of my “duds” from making my Greek Gods and Goddesses collection. They’re nice and shifty but just wasn’t what I wanted in the final colour. Some batches are quite large – sometimes I try and salvage a colour by adding more colours and welp, sometimes it doesn’t work out.
Oooo! I am curious to see what the colors are now!

What is your favorite product from your company?
I am really digging my plush lip balm formula in the slimline tubes! My favourite product is probably my blushes though.
I have yet to try the new formula or the blush but they look pretty awesome. I’ve seen nothing but good things so far!

What’s your favorite cosmetic product from another company?
Hm, I really love Life’s Entropy’s lip theories. And Fyrinnae‘s shadows cannot be beat! I also love swatching my Femme Fatale eyeshadows and staring at their shifty goodness. I can’t decide!
I’m kind of a jerkface for asking this. lol I don’t think I could choose.

DSC_2133Random questions!

What’s your favorite color?
Gray, like my cat. > :)
Gray is a fantastic color. I’m a little partial though, it’s my maiden name! xd

What’s your favorite perfume and what does it smell like?
Toasted Marshmallow from Sixteen92. It smells like creamy vanilla gooeyness.
Oh gosh. Just because of *you* I am dying to smell Toasted Marshmallow. The kiddoes and I have been toasting marshmallows over a burner on our stove and the smell is amazing. Every time we do I think of you and Claire and then want all the toasted marshmallow scented things. I need toasted marshmallow incense!

Do you have any pets?
Yes! I have a cat named Waffle (duh) and a corgi named Remy who just so happens to be the most mischievous dog on the planet. That dog is way too smart for his own good :|
I am jealous of your Remy. I loooooove Corgis! When I was younger my parents had a friend who bred them and my fondest memory is pulling up to their gated driveway and seeing a heard of Corgis coming around the house. It was adorable and hysterical all at the same time. They are so stinking cute!

What do you do in your spare time?
I am pretty much the most boring person on earth. I spend my spare time watching Netflix with my bf and being a human couch for my cat and dog. On weekends we like to do fun activities like skiing/skating in the winter or ziplining and hiking in the summer!
I think I am far more boring than you. lol Unless you count doctor/therapy appointments exciting!

DSC_2333What’s your favorite season and why?
Fall! It’s when the weather starts to cool down but warm enough to still be comfortable. The humidity is gone so your face isn’t an oil slick and all the bugs have died off. And the snow hasn’t started so you can still sneak in some end-of-season bbq’s :)
I love Autumn! I wish it lasted longer!

Would you rather be a bat or crow? And Why?
A bat! Bats are cool plus they have awesome night vision. Plus they’re cute!
They are pretty adorable!

Christine currently offers lots of cool products! I’ve only tried her shadows which are pretty dang awesome, but I’ve got some of her balms, lip gloss, blush and highlighters on my wishlist(and a lot more shadows too!). You can find her shop here and you can find her on Facebook and Instagram too!

Retinol Moisturizer
Apply all over face, neck and decolette. Can be used morning and night. Apply after washing, toning and then a serum. If you used daily, use UV protection and avoid excessive sun exposure when using this product as it contains retinol. This Cream works very well with Radha Beauty Vitamin C Serum.

Packaging
The Vitamin C Serum comes in a silver and gray pump bottle. It has a matte silver cap and bottom. The pump is white with a silver base. The label is gray with orange, white and black details. It has the company and product information on it. The Retinol Moisturizer comes in a clear and silver pump bottle. It has a clear case over a matte silver bottle and the top is shiny silver. It has a clear label with black and white details. It has the company and product information on it.

Scent and formula
The Vitamin C Serum is clear watery but a sort of thick watery serum. It smells slightly herbal, I think maybe it’s a hint of the witch hazel I smell. It’s not a strong scent and only lingers for a couple of minutes after it is absorbed, then the smell just sort of dissipates. It leaves no stickiness or any residue behind and absorbs completely. The Retinol Moisturizer is a normal lotion consistency. It’s not runny but not thick either. It has a normal unscented scent. It doesn’t feel oily or leave any residue behind. It absorbs completely and just leaves a soft feeling behind. You can’t smell it at all when it’s on your skin.

Ingredients
Vitamin C Serum
Organic Herbal Infusion, Aloe, Sodium Ascorbyl Phosphate (Vitamin C), MSM, botanical hyaluronic acid, Witch Hazel, d-Alpha Tocopheryl Acetate (Vitamin E), Carbomer, Amino Complex, Ferulic Acid, Kosher Vegetable Glycerin, Jojoba Oil, Phenoxyethanol, Ethyl Hexyl Glycerin.

Retinol Moisturizer
Organic Aloe Vera, Organic Sunflower Oil, Palm Oil, Pentylene Glycol, Phospholipids, Retinol, Polysorbate 20, Potassium Phosphate, Tocopheryl (Vitamin E), Cassia Angustifolia Seed Polysaccharide, Glyceryl Stearate,Cetyl Alcohol, Stearic Acid, Kosher Vegetable Glycerin, Organic Jojoba Oil, Wildcrafted Green Tea, Propolis, Shea Butter, Panthenol (Vitamin B5), Phenoxyethanol, Ethylhexyl Glycerin, Xanthan Gum, Citric Acid.

I have been using the Vitamin C Serum and Retinol Moisturizer from Radha Beauty for a few weeks now. I’ll start with the moisturizer because it’s my favorite! The moisturizer isn’t thick or rich it’s a standard feeling lotion. When you apply it though it fully absorbs and leaves no oily feeling or residue. It just leaves your skin feeling super soft. It makes my skin glow, but it doesn’t look oily or shiny, it just looks… healthy. I find it incredible because usually my skin looks shiny or oily with moisturizers or it looks dull and dry. This moisturizes my dry areas, but doesn’t make my oily forehead and nose look oily. I just love it. I am seriously pleasantly surprised with it. It’s supposed to combat the signs of aging. It’s designed to help improve skin texture and tone, reduce fine lines and wrinkles and soften enlarged pores. I don’t have wrinkles, so I can’t tell you how it works with those, but I can say it helps with everything else. It really does. I am impressed with it. My only problem was with the packaging. It wasn’t pumping out anything when I got it. I contact Radha Beauty and they told me to try turning it upside down and try hitting the top on my hand. I tried that and it didn’t work, but I found that if I banged it on a counter a few times I could get a pump out. They offered to replace it, but since I am able to get product out I didn’t feel like it was necessary.

Onto the Vitamin C Serum. I also really like this product. I think it ranks 2nd for my favorite Vitamin C Serum so far. It’s a good formula. It’s a little more watery than I’m use to, but it applies easily and absorbs really well. It leaves no stickiness and absorbs completely and makes your skin feel soft. It’s supposed to stimulate the production of collagen, reduce sun damage, reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, moisturizes and makes your skin brighter, smoother and more even. Again with the wrinkles, I can’t help you there. That’s a good thing though, right? hehe My skin feels good and looks good when I use this. It just makes it look supple and healthy. It looks and feels more smooth and soft. Really it just looks healthy and the redness is mostly gone. Most products reduce it, but most days when I glance at my face in the mirror I do a double take because the redness is mostly gone. The packaging for this has changed. It now comes in an amber bottle with a dropper and you get 2 fluid ounces, versus 1 fluid ounce in the old packaging. I really like both of these products. I am seriously impressed with this company and the products I’ve tried so far.

Radha Beauty has a 180 money back guarantee. You keep the bottle and get your money back with no questions asked.

Peptide + Intense Eye Recovery Serum

Review: [re]fresh Skin Therapy Peptide + Intense Eye Recovery Serum

press sample

Official description

Refresh Skin Therapy’s Peptide+ Intense Eye Recovery Serum is a dynamic and effective dark circle elimination treatment. Using an active ingredient mix of peptides derived from purified soy, rice, and yeast, the formula positively stimulates blood circulation away from the eyes to dramatically reduce dark circles and puffiness.

Benefits
• Reduces dark circles and puffiness around the eyes
• Strengthens connective tissue around the eye
• Restores important moisture levels
• Soothes and softens the skin
• Is safe and gentle to use around the eyes

More details:? The specific peptides used in this formula help improve microcirculation by strengthening the layers of the skin, ?which regulate collagen formation and elasticity. Thanks to the rejuvenated skin cells, increased micro-circulation within the delicate blood vessels. improves the appearance of dark circles.

The Natural Plant Extract and Hyaluronic Acid base delivers a moisturizing boost to dry skin. Seaweed is rich in antioxidants and protective value. Hyaluronic Acid is a natural moisturizer that attracts and retains moisture from the environment.

Where to buy
From Refresh Skin Therapy – You get a 12 mL tube for $49.95 USD.

Directions
Apply one pump to ring finger and tap gently around eye area.

Packaging
This eye serum comes in a plastic syringe looking container. It’s a clear plastic syringe that has a white rubber cap on the tip and then a clear snap on cap over that. The label is what with purple and black details. Has company and product information on it.

Scent and formula
It’s a clear, watery gel-like formula. It has no scent. It’s not sticky and leaves no residue once absorbed.

Ingredients
Chrondus Crispus (Seaweed) Extract, Purified Water (Aqua), Hyaluronic Acid, Triple Peptide Blend (Oxidoreductases, Glycine Soja (Soybean) Protein, Hydrolized Rice Bran Protein) Phenoxyethanol, Ethylhexylglycerine.

I have been using this eye serum from [re]fresh Skin Therapy for about a month now. It’s a good serum, but I loathe the packaging. So let me get this out of the way! The packaging is awful, it’s a cool concept, but it doesn’t work well and it annoys me. It’s made to look like a syringe, cute, right? Well it doesn’t work so well. First, it has two caps. It has a clear plastic cap that snaps on and then it has a white rubber tip that pops on. If you don’t leave the white rubber tip on it can leak inside the clear plastic cap a little and if you don’t leave the clear plastic cap on the white rubber tip falls off easily. Now to dispense product you have to twist the plunger end to unlock it and then press it like you’re pressing the plunger on a syringe and product pops out. I do mean *pops* out. If you’re not careful it kind of shoots all over and a lot comes out. More than you need for both of your eyes. I think this product would do much better in a regular pump bottle. It’s a good product and it doesn’t need the gizmo hype of the syringe.

Now onto the product itself! The eye serum is really nice. It’s not sticky or oily and it absorbs completely leaving no residue, it just makes your eye area feel smooth and it’s a little cooling and refreshing. It’s supposed to help with skin texture, under eye circles, puffiness, inflammation, uv damage, improved capillary production and is supposed to increase collagen production. It contains no fragrance, artificial colors, parabans, sulfates, alcohol, or preservatives so it is supposed to be non-irritating. My eyes are sensitive and I get bad allergies. This serum is definitely non-irritating. Even some of my favorite eye gels/serums burn for a few seconds when I apply them, this does not. At all. As I said it’s cooling and refreshing, it helps with puffiness and inflammation from my allergies and it just makes my eye area look less dark and the skin looks and feels softer. It really moisturizes without feeling sticky or oily. It absorbs completely. I don’t look so blah, like death. haha This eye serum is also vegan and cruelty free. I know the packaging is supposed to be air tight and keep the product from contamination and what not, but it just annoys me. Put it in another container and it would be perfect!

The Pro-A Serum is a semi-clear, sort of cloudy and slightly yellowy tinged liquid. It has the consistency of a super watered down gel. It smells like an acid like glycolic acid. The Retinol Surge Moisturizer is white and thick, but it has a watery consistency, not buttery. It has smell and is not sticky or oily. It absorbs completely into the skin without leaving residue.

I’ve been using this serum and moisturizer from Body Merry for almost a month and so far I like them. I’ll start with the Pro-A Serum. It’s supposed to help with wrinkles, fine lines, aging/sun spots, moisture, general aging and improve the overall texture of your skin. Some retinol products can dry your skin out even with added products that help with moisture. This is not one of those products. While this absorbs completely, it doesn’t dry your skin out. It just makes my skin feel smooth and soft. The Retinol Surge Moisturizer is supposed to help with the same skin problems as the Pro-A Serum but it also improves the texture of your skin and your skin tone. It evens out the color of the skin and helps with acne discoloration, sun damage, hyperpigmentation and other skin discolorations. I really like this retinol moisturizer. It’s not oily at all, it completely absorbs into the skin without leaving any residue and makes the skin look supple and plump. It has helped lighted the acne scars I have as well. Body Merry is a cruelty free company and all of their products are made in the US. They have a 90 day money back guarantee as well. If you don’t like your product you have 90 days to return it for a full refund. No need to return the bottle.
