Thursday Guest Post!

Life’s Entropy lip and foundation elixir swatches and review!

My first ever Life’s Entropy haul finally came in! I made an order during Black Friday after completely falling in love with some samples I got from an exchange.

I was busy with traveling and hadn’t noticed that my package was lost in the abyss of Canadian mail until the store owner, Jane, emailed me. She offered me the choice of either a full refund or a new package and I picked the latter of course, because I wanted my pretties and I had ordered birthday gifts for my friend! I was quite impressed that Jane took the initiative to contact me. She also offered me a discount coupon to make up for the long waiting time. So major points for customer service and you can bet I’ll be putting that coupon to good use sometime. (:

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURESI got the foundation elixir in yellow, a few Lip Theory and Lip Theory samples, and a full-sized Big Bang Theory because it’s freaking amazing and gorgeous. The little vial is the gift with purchase, Chaos.

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURESSAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURESHere’s what the foundation elixir in yellow looks like. It’s darker than I expected. It’s a little tricky to get out of the tube. Even after shaking vigorously, it still comes out looking a little like it’s separated? However, once you mix it up, it functions just fine. I find the tube kind of a pain to use because it’s hard to control how much comes out and I ended up squeezing out a lot more than I had intended to later on.

The only foundation I’ve found that really works and stays on me is Estee Lauder’s Double Wear in 2N1 Desert Beige. Depending on the lighting, sometimes it still looks a smidge too pink on me and hence why I got the foundation elixir to try and play with!

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURESHere’s a swatch on my arm. On the left is my usual foundation, on the right has a little bit of yellow elixir mixed in.

It’s very easy to mix with your foundation and it doesn’t change the original consistency much. Although, if you’re mixing in a lot more elixir that could change it! I think it works very well to give a yellow tint that doesn’t look too sallow.

After this experiment, I’m starting to realize maybe my original foundation is just fine. Ugh, my foundation woes never end and maybe my eyes are just deluding me! I was hoping this yellow elixir would help me figure it out but now I’m realizing I maybe didn’t need it after all. I might pass it on to someone else because I find it still worked very well as intended. And now that you’ve all witnessed my foolishness when it comes to foundation, we can move on to lip swatches! Yay :d

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURESThis is what the little samples of the Lip Theory Satin colors look like. They’re small but have a quite good amount of lipstick to try out and I’m sure it’ll last many more uses.

Left to right: Plasma, Flux, Chaos, Apoptosis,  Nucleus, Big Bang Theory

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURESSAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURESI really like the formula of the Lip Theory Satins! I used a lip brush to apply them. They’re really pigmented and creamy, making for a really smooth and easy application.  On my lips, Plasma and Flux seem reaaaally similar, with the latter leaning more red. I’ve seen other swatches where I think Plasma looks quite different though, so it might just be a matter of how pigmented my lips are. Although I love berry shades, I think Flux looks better on me and I quite like it.

Although the colors are really pretty, they’re also quite common colors in my opinion and I probably would not have purchased a full size. I’m glad I got to try out these samples though because they were really nice to use and very opaque.

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURESThe GWP, a limited edition Lip Theory in Chaos. It comes in a little vial with a doefoot applicator. It’s a very pretty fuschia color and the consistency is more like the usual Lip Theory rather than the Cosmos collection lipsticks. This was an awesome gift, it’s really a fabulous color and I really enjoy the Lip Theory formula so heck yes, give me more!

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURESApoptosis is really bright on me. While I love the color, it’s just CRAZY NEON in person and it comes off a bit more muted in this photo. I don’t know if I can quite wear it out just like that, haha.

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURESSo I mixed it with a teensy bit of Big Bang Theory to create a more wearable yet bright color. It turned out quite lovely!

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURESBlurgh, you can see the area around my lips getting rather red from the constant rubbing off of lipstick. I love Nucleus, it’s really pigmented for a black lipstick and it’s just about as dark as my soul. It’s perfect. I need a full size of this for sure!

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURESAnd not to mention, it’s a lot of fun for mixing up new colors! Here’s Nucleus with BBT for a very murder-ey look. Also, I got too lazy to keep wiping lipstick off my piercing.

I really wanna get more of these just for the amazing mixing potential! I like the Lip Theories a LOT more than the OCC lip tars I have. My lip tars feather really quickly and bleed even when I have on lip liner |: And that’s never fun to deal with.

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURESAnd just for fun, here’s Placebo with Shiro Cosmetic’s Women’s Weapons. I like mixing it on my own a lot better than purchasing custom glosses from Shiro, especially since the one custom gloss I’ve tried just doesn’t last well on my lips. This stays on a lot better and doesn’t feel so slippery and awkward to work with.

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURESMy mixing palette after all of that. SO MUCH FUN, I SWEAR.

And that concludes this guest post! Thanks a ton Luna for letting me guest post again on your pretty pretty blog! Also these emoticons are way too cute.

Scent and formula
It smells like aloe vera gel and has a similar consistency as aloe vera gel. It’s a clear, cloudy gel.

Deionized Water, Butylene Glycol, Acetyl Tetrapeptide-5, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice, Glycerin, Cucumis Sativus (Cucumber) Fruit Extract, Ethoxydiglycol, Hesperidin Methylchalcone, Steareth-20-Dipeptide-2, Palmitoyl Tetrapeptide-7, Phenoxyethanol, Caprylyl Glycol, Sorbic Acid, Carbomer, Camellia Sinensis (Green Tea) Extract, Euphrasia Officinalis (Eyebright) Extract, Glycyrrhiza Glabra (Licorice) Root Extract, Sodium PCA, Triethanolamine, Glycosaminoglycans, Sodium Hyaluronate, Panthenol, Tocopheryl Acetate, Tetrahexyldecyl Ascorbate, Allantoin.

I’ve used the True Skin Care Anti-Aging Eye Gel for a couple of weeks now and I like it. It’s a soothing and cooling eye gel that is supposed to also help with under eye circles and help with anti-aging. I have noticed that after using it my eyes look a little less puffy and it most definitely feels good. It’s very cooling. I haven’t notice any difference with under eye circles, but to be honest I don’t have very visible ones so I didn’t expect much of a change. It’s very hydrating without leaving any residue. I like this under eye gel. In general I find that cooling under eye gels tend to burn my eyes but this did not. I like that very much. This is made in the USA in FDA registered facilities and has a money back guarantee. If you aren’t happy with it, just email them and you’ll get your money back!

Review: CreditCovers

press sample

Official description
CreditCovers are the original skins for credit cards. Also called “credit card stickers”, CreditCovers allow you to cover the boring designs on your bank card with cool art or custom messages.

Where to buy
From CreditCovers – You get one CreditCover for $9.99 USD.

You receive a little card that has instructions and company info on it as well as your CreditCover. It appears to be made out of a vinyl material.

I had the opportunity to try out a CreditCover and chose to make my own! I made one of Mochi in space, because I love that image so much. xd It was really easy to make and it was shipped off to me pretty quickly after my order was complete. The colors are vibrant just like the image I used. It was a little tricky to apply to my card only because it was so sticky. I got it on though and haven’t had any issues with it. it’s not peeling off anywhere and I managed to not get any bubbles under it. When you get a CreditCover you can choose from the many they already have, like Hello Kitty or their cute little card creatures, or you can make your own like I did! These are made in the US right here in New York by the way. They are super cute and durable and I like them!

Indie Interview with Tilt/Shift Cosmetics

Indie Interview: Tilt/Shift Cosmetics

I have returned with another interview! Today I have an interview from Niamh from Tilt/Shift Cosmetics. Please enjoy!

10954764_1699708843589253_1400035610_nWhere are you from? I love your accent!
I’m from Nottingham, England! But I’ve lived in America for most of my life now, although I do get to visit often!
I would love to be able to visit England one day. England and Scotland. :d

When and why did you start Tilt/Shift Cosmetics?
Tilt/Shift was started about 9 months ago now, and I did it because I was growing tired of being a waitress, despite loving the place I worked it’s not something you want to do forever.
I also around the same time stopped taking photos for money because I was being taken advantage of a lot, as is the problem with lots of visual artists, so I decided to put my creativity into something tangible, and makeup is something I’ve loved since I was about 14, so it was a natural choice!
Aw I’m sorry to hear that. That’s awful. I’m glad you started Tilt/Shift though!

10847669_373467316165916_3768740688892441020_oHow did you come up for the name for Tilt/Shift Cosmetics?
I’ve been taking photos since I was about 10 years old, and until I was about 19-20 it was the love of my life. Tilt/Shift is a type of lens used in photography that creates a really interesting and beautiful effect, I wanted to marry my two loves, hence the name!

What was the first product you made and do you currently still sell it?
The first product I ever made was Chaos, a lilac lipstick, and it’s still one of my favourites! I don’t sell it now but I’d like to try to remake it with the reformulation of my lipsticks.
Oh I would love to see you remake it.

How do you choose the name and colors for your products?
Originally T/S was all space themed, but to be honest I’m kid of branching away from that a bit. I think I’d like to go in a different direction and start taking things which really inspire me and create based off those.
Last night I had a creative surge and started designing packaging and shadows based on my favourite poet’s works!
Oh that’s really awesome to hear. I hope you don’t stop doing space themes altogether though!

10929224_373467292832585_573910970959994993_nWhere do you make your products?
I have a separate room in my house dedicated to T/S things! I create in there and print/come up with ideas in my office, which I share with my husband. I feel very lucky to have a space where I can feel creative! I also feel lucky that I have so many things from my photography work which really help when it comes to Tilt/Shift.

What sizes do you offer for all of your products?
I offer samples which are the standard 1/8th tsp. and full sizes which are 5 grams. I’m currently switching to no sifters so I’ll be shrink-wrapping! Yayy so professional! ;)

Will you be making any new products in the future? New collections?
I’m still working on my lipsticks, but I’m SO close. There’s one more thing I have to order in a bigger size and then I can actually start coming up with the colours!
Right now I am really taken by the idea of doing a collection based on my favourite poet, and kind of moving the brand more toward the direction of things I love which other people may love as well, making it more personal to me and hopefully more unique.
Yessss! Lipsticks! MORE LIPSTICKS!

Is making eyeshadow and lipstick your only job?
T/S is my full time job, which I’m very lucky for, but I do model on the side sometimes, mostly so I can have more money to make more pretty things! Haha!

IMG_2394_c6a2f45a-3a80-4774-a37d-c9ee338b863f_largeWhat would you recommend for new customers to try?
My new X-Files collection coming out on the 31st. ;) There are a handful of colours in it that I’m especially proud of: Smokey Man, Bad Blood, Boyish Agility, and Mr. X namely. Also Hot Toddy! I’ve been wearing that colour a lot, I really like it!

Would product would you say best represents your company as a whole? And why?
I’m not sure that I could pick one product, I think as a whole I’d like T/S to be seen as a creative and unique brand, which still doesn’t sacrifice a good balance of different shades, and classic colours.

Have you had new colors/products go so awry you just trash them?
Yes, haha, but never ones that I’ve already released! There’s a plastic bag full of smaller plastic bags which contain eyeshadow failures.
I also have a drawer of shades which are pretty but don’t fit into the collection, sometimes I dive in there and see if there’s something which catches my eye for a new collection!

1507016_373467249499256_6755776489009703364_nWhat is your favorite product from your company?
I honestly can’t pick a favourite, they are all my babies! But currently I’ve been loving Vulcan! I’ve been digging neutrals lately, especially the reddish brownish 90’s neutrals. Mmm.

What’s your favorite cosmetic product from another company?
Oh man. I’ve been on a super perfume kick lately but as far as cosmetics go I love Blackbird’s Green Magic Trick powder, Hello Waffle’s Golden Veil highlight and Sweet Tea blush, Beauty Bar Baby‘s Black Gel Liner, Shiro’s Baker’s Boy and Hodor eyeshadows.
Right now though, my favourite has been AFK’s The Thorn’s Embrace tinted balm. It’s the colour I’ve been wearing almost every day for the last month. It’s such a beautiful 90’s brown/red/neutral colour and I can build it up for a dramatic lip or sheer it out for a MLBB tint. The colour is so hot right now! ;) I love it.
Also Becca’s Shimmering Skin Perfecter in Moonstone. Not indie but good god the hype is REAL.
I want to try Hello Waffle’s Golden Veil highlight just because of you!

Random questions!

What’s your favorite color?
BLACK. GRAY. I can’t think of the last time I didn’t wear all black. I also like deep, earthy greens.

IMG_2397_3ca7f239-963f-495c-80d2-385282d9123c_largeDo you have any pets?
I have three, all boys!

An incredibly sweet and loving dog, Booker (named after the Bioshock Infinite character), who is a German Shepherd/Carolina Dingo mix. Yes. Dingo. He was found on the side of the road howling at all of the cars and was taken in by an amazing foster mum, Laura, who then reluctantly let us have him, haha. He still sees her often though!

Dexter, a Tabby cat named after the TV show serial killer because when we first got him he liked to bite. Hard. When we first walked into the “kitten room” at the SPCA he ran up to us and climbed all the way up to sit on our heads. He chose us, haha! He only loves me and my husband, which I secretly like. We get all of his snuggles and sweetness to ourselves!

And Odin, a long furred grey and white tuxedo/tabby/I don’t know, who is the sweetest, dumbest, most vocal little boy. We had less than 5 minutes to pick a new cat before the SPCA closed and we went for him, we couldn’t have made a better choice.
Aww lots of fluffies! Mochi happened to choose me too. xd

What do you do in your spare time?
Play video games, take photos, cook, lift weights, and sing. LOTS of bad singing, pretty much for all of my waking hours. I feel bad for my neighbors.

Do you have any hobbies?
I’m trying to learn guitar and build the confidence to write songs. Guitar is actually going well! Writing not so much. Haha. I’m too much of a perfectionist so I write the first line and I’m like “that’s dumb” and I give up. This has been a daily occurrence for the past few weeks now.
That’s cool. I always wish I had learned an instrument!

What’s your favorite season and why?
I used to be a Fall/Winter person. But I’ve lived around Charleston for 9 years now and nothing beats a Summer here. I’ve gotten so used to it I don’t think I could live anywhere else now.

Would you rather be a bat or crow? And Why?
A crow, because they’re badass and beautiful and haunting all at once. Plus I love their call, so creepy!
Ee. I love their call and the noises they make.

Yay! Thanks for answering all my questions. You rock Niamh! If you guys want to try any of Tilt/Shift’s products you can find the shop here and you can find her on Facebook here.

They are clear plastic. The company name is on the front and the glitter name and info on a sticker on the back.

Scent and formula
The lip gloss smells faintly of a light almost fruity vanilla. It disappears on your lips. It’s a creamy smooth formula and not sticky at all. The glitter is fine, you can feel it but it’s not gritty feeling. The mascara smells and feels like standard mascara. The nail polish smells, looks, feels and tastes like nail polish. xd

So if you love One Direction you’ll love these Makeup by One Direction sets by Markwins! The lip glosses are really nice. They are creamy and non-sticky. The glitter is very fine and doesn’t feel gritty. The colors are lovely and bright. My favorite is Taken. The mascaras are cool. The blue and pink show up fairly well but the yellow is hard to use on the hair. They all show up really well on the lashes though. They are vibrant colors and look really cool. The nail polish is pretty decent. The blue and pink are super bright and are cream jellies. It takes 3-4 coats to make them opaque. If you know me you my disdain for bar glitter. The holo polish is… pretty but it’s bar glitter and I can’t stand to wear it. The glitters themselves are pretty. The blue and pink are lighter versions of their polish friends. To be honest they aren’t that glittery. I used them several ways on my nails and my favorite way to use them was in a glitter sandwich. I think they looked best that way. Now the holo glitter Star is my favorite. It’s gorgeous. It’s colorful and sparkly and shiny and Oooo. These sets came out in November of 2014 and are available in the following stores Macy’s, Dillards, Boscov’s, Stage, Stores, Beauty Brands, Lord & Taylor. They are also available online at Amazon and Dillard’s. :d I hope you like my little model! Fumiko had been wanting to try the mascara and it was easier to take pictures of it on her! She has the pink mascara on her lashes and in her bangs, the blue mascara in her brows and hair and the yellow in her hair. She thought she looked so cool. :)

Kiss InstaWave

Review: Kiss InstaWave Automatic Curler

press sample

Official description
It’s quick and easy to get salon-quality curls with the revolutionary new InstaWave by KISS. Just push the button to style any type of hair effortlessly.

  • Fully automatic, tangle-free curler
  • Innovative design lets you curl from any position using either hand
  • Curl Dial makes it simple to switch between left and right curl directions
  • Ceramic Ionic Technology protects hair for healthy, shiny results
  • Two heat settings with maximum temperature of 420° F
  • Auto shutoff after 90 minutes for added safety
  • Patent Pending

Where to buy
From Target – for $59.99 USD.
From Ulta – for $59.99 USD.

1. Hold InstaWave up-right and place 1 to 2 inches of hair onto curler.

2. Press button to instantly catch hair and rotate curl barrel. Hold button until hair is fully around barrel, then release.

3. Allow barrel to heat hair for 3 to 10 seconds (time depends on style of curl and hair type).

4. Pull InstaWave gently downward to release a beautiful curl.

It comes in a box with a booklet of instructions.

The Kiss InstaWave is motorized and wraps your hair around the barrel. You can either wrap it left or right. It curls pretty well. I’ve found it works better on longer hair. It does make a low humming sound, but it’s not very loud. The first few times you use it it does have an odd smell, but it doesn’t linger on your hair. This was super easy to use, I think my only complaint that it doesn’t hold the hair as tight on shorter hair, so you don’t get tight curls, other than that it’s great. :)
