Laaaaaaa! I cannot tell you how excited I am! I won this box in a giveaway. :WTF: I rarely win anything, ever. Anyways! I must show you what’s inside, but first let me tell you about Memebox! Let me warn you this post is seriously image heavy. Also I will be reviewing products individually! This is just an un-boxing to show you what’s inside! Also it looks like the Whole Grain box was re-stocked!

Memebox‘s story
Memebox is a rapidly-growing, leading e-commerce beauty retailer born in Seoul, currently headquartered in Palo Alto, California.

Memebox curates only the most trusted, best-loved Korean beauty products at everyday prices. An extremely competitive industry, Korean cosmetics are renowned for their unprecedented quality developed through cutting-edge technology. At the forefront of the industry, Memebox is determined to deliver the enchantment of discovery through effortless experiences, at prices you’ll never say no to.

Gently guiding your discovery, Memebox believes in offering consumers the utmost freedom, steering away from the traditional subscription-based programs offered by most other sampling services. Order from Memebox only when you want to, as often as you want to. In addition to our box series, Memeshop carries full-sized products featured in previous Memeboxes, offering easy access to Korean cosmetic trends.

The boxes!
Memebox
The original Memebox comes packed with 4 – 8 full sized products and deluxe samples, carefully curated from Korea to give you the best experience and widest exposure to a range of products.
Superbox
Superbox was inspired by our Memebox lovers, looking for full-sized products catered to specific needs. Each Superbox series comes with it’s own theme, designed to target particular concerns.
Luckybox
We only have a limited supply of each Memebox series, and Luckybox was created to bring back our most popular items selected from previously sold-out Memeboxes, all combined in one wonderful collection. Each Luckybox contains a selection of products from past Memeboxes, occasionally including a few new favorites we simply could not resist including. Just like our Memebox and Superbox, Luckybox products are sourced directly from Korea, including only the best-loved items thoughtfully curated by our cosmetic aficionados at Memebox.

Onto the un-boxing!

So my Memebox came in a cute pink bubble wrap envelope, which I didn’t get a picture of. D: But inside that is the adorable hot pink box with all the goodies inside. When I opened it I saw that the lid had stuff printed on it. It says:

Memebox curates only the most trusted, best-loved Korean beauty products, at everyday prices. An extremely competitive industry. Korean cosmetics are renowned for their unprecedented quality developed through cutting-edge technology. At the forefront of the industry Memebox is determined to deliver the enchantment of discovery through effortless experiences, at prices you’ll never say no to.

Next thing I noticed was the printed card. I really like that they list the size and value of the items, as well as directions on how to use each product and a small summary of what it does. Then I saw the products! I think I squealed in delight. I was so excited to get this box and find out what was in it. Luckily for me there isn’t anything I won’t put to good use!

Onto the items!

Thursday Guest Post: Shiro Cosmetics gloss swatches + flavour reviews

||||| Like It 1 Like it! |||||

Hello all!
I’m dictura/Jasmine and I’m most pleased to be your guest blogger for today. About me: I’m a recovering academic and chronic geek with an indie makeup obsession. I am also a stereotypical Canadian. I blog at Shimmer is Coming, or something. And I’m pretty starstruck to be in the company I’m in right now, so. Let’s get on with it before I start apologizing!

Today is a day for new Shiro gloss swatches and first impressions, some of my thoughts on many (though not all) of Shiro’s flavour options, and a quick comparison.

Plausible Walrus custom gloss (moderate, cherry pie flavoured)

I am once again and for always a jerk for posting swatches of things that can no longer be purchased. Plausible Walrus was a colour of the month that did not make the high scores. It does, however, make a kickin’ lip gloss so maybe Shiro will come up with something like it in future. (You can see a swatch of the eyeshadow right here on this blog, if you like taunting yourself.)

Shiro described the eyeshadow as “a right poppy-pink with a violet shift.”

The gloss comes off to me as a warm, bright pink, slightly coral-tinged (is that poppy-pink? I thought poppies were red? has Remembrance Day been lying to me all along?), with a strong violet shift. No picture I have taken has accurately portrayed the strength of this shift. It’s surprisingly wearable, though, and even more so if sheered out a bit, as the violet is more evident when the gloss is more heavily applied. …and this is all useless information unless they bring this colour back. I am so sorry.

But. Onwards–to the things you can buy!

Cognitive Recalibration custom gloss (moderate, cinnamon flavoured)

My first thought when I saw the Hawkeye-inspired eyeshadow in the The Earth’s Mightiest Heroes collection was: “I want that on my lips.” This is because I am the world’s biggest sucker for lip products with blue shifts. I’d been planning to order another blue-shifting shadow, Heart Attack, as a gloss for ages, but found that others’ swatches showed very little duochrome in the finished product. Sadness.

Shiro describes Cognitive Recalibration as “medium burgundy with a strong blue shift.”

I’d say the gloss almost fits the bill–the blue shift in this one isn’t nearly as strong as the violet in Plausible Walrus, and these are both moderate opacity glosses, so I feel it’s fair to compare. I found the website swatch of the shadow quite purple, so I expected that initially, but the base colour here is clearly burgundy, or in my layman’s terms, a purpled-red. This is surprisingly wearable and not too bad to work with for a darker colour.

FOTD + Review: My Pretty Zombie Dr. Pickles Miraculous Beauty Dust Mint & Violet

||||| Like It 2 Like it! |||||

press sample

So this is kind of a FOTD and swatch/comparison all in one. I have the Dr. Pickles Miraculous Beauty Dusts from My Pretty Zombie for you. I always use the mint shade, mostly because my face likes be red all the time and it helps neutralize the redness a lot. The violet is used for neutralizing yellow in the skin. Anyways, off to the photos.

Official descriptions
Mint if your skin has red undertones.
Violet if your skin has yellow undertones

Ordering options
You will receive loose product in a 30g jar without a sifter, packed 8g by weight for $12.00 per jar.
You will receive loose product in a standard baggie, packed by volume for $1.00 per sample baggie.

Packaging
Both come in a clear 30g square jar with a clear cat label on top and product information label on bottom.

Scent and formula
Neither formula has a scent. Both are silky, fine powders. Mint is a light minty green powder. Violet is a light lavender purple powder.

Ingredients
Mint – Mica, Rice Powder, Silicone Dioxide, Ultramarines, Titanium Dioxide, Chromium Oxide Green, Magnesium Myristrate. VEGAN
Violet – Mica, Rice Powder, Silicone Dioxide, Ultramarines, Magnesium Myristrate. VEGAN

Swatches taken in direct sun and swatched over bare skin.

I don’t know if you can really see much of a difference in the photos. I started a new skin routine using asian skincare products and it’s drastically reduced the redness in my face. But the green powder now totally neutralizes any red in my face, before I started using the asian skin care products it did a pretty god job, but you could still tell I was a little red. I don’t really use the violet because it just sort of enhances the redness a little, which I don’t want. XD I love the green powder though. It leaves no green cast on your face and it helps keep my face from getting oily super fast. The powder itself is very fine and silky. My cheeks tend to always stay dry and this doesn’t enhance that, or make them more dry or flaky. I definitely recommend trying it. At least get a sample to try. I am very happy with it!
