Directions
Performance Peel AP25
First, cleanse the face with a gentle, effective cleanser such as Exuviance Purifying Cleansing Gel.

Step 1. Apply a Step 1 Activator Pad over the entire face, avoiding eye area, lips and any area of sensitivity. Then discard pad. Carefully monitor the skin’s response to the Peel by observing any redness or discomfort, including stinging, burning, itching, tightness, tingling and peeling.

Step 2. Apply a Step 2 Neutralizer Pad to the face after 10 minutes, or sooner if you experience bothersome redness or discomfort. Apply over entire face (avoiding eyes and lips), and then rinse the face thoroughly with water.

You may leave the (Step 1) Activator Solution on your skin for up to, or as long as 10 minutes, and no longer than 10 minutes. Some people may experience some bothersome dryness or stinging during the 10 minute time frame the activator solution in on their face. For those skin types we suggest applying the (Step 2) Neutralizer Solution earlier than 10 minutes, or as soon as you experience the stinging sensation if you find it bothersome. As with all Hydroxy Acid peels, a slight tingling sensation is expected, but if this sensation is too much, we recommend neutralizing the peel sooner than the total 10 minute time.

OptiLight Essential 6 Serum
Using fingertips, gently apply serum to cleansed face. Can be smoothed all over the face and neck or applied to specific areas. Gently massage any remaining excess into the skin. Can be used alone or under treatment and moisturizer. Daily use of a sunscreen is recommended as part of a healthy skincare regimen.

Evening Restorative Complex
Gently smooth over a cleansed face and neck in the evening. Daily use of a sunscreen is recommended as part of a healthy skin care regimen.

Packaging
I received sample packages! The Optilight Essential 6 Serum came in a silvery gray pump with green features. The Evening Restorative Complex came in a white squeeze tube with green features and the peels came in a clear cellophane baggie with an information card. the step 1 peel comes in a teal foil packet with white and pink features and the step 2 came in a silver foil packet with pink and white and teal features. Both pads are textured round cotton pads.

Scent and formula
The pads spell like acid. If you’ve ever smelled the sulfuric acid stuff they use to unclog drains, it smells like a light version of that. It’s not awful, but it doesn’t smell good. The neutralizer pad doesn’t have much of a scent at all. The liquid on the pads is quite this and clear. The Evening Restorative Complex smells lightly of apricots. I quite like the smell of it. It’s a thick cream that has a very faint green tint to it. The OptiLight Essential 6 Serum smells kind of like one of those gel peel masks. Kind of an aloe, cucumber, alcohol mix with a tiny bit of a fruit scent. I’ve smelled it before, I just can’t place it. I don’t like cucumbery scents so it’s not quite a pleasant scent for me, but it doesn’t smell bad. It’s a fresh scent. It’s a clear, thick liquid.

So I liked some and didn’t like some! We shall start with what I didn’t like. It took me awhile to get this review up and I shall tell you why! White I really liked the texture, feel and smell of the Evening Restorative Complex, my skin didn’t like it. After a few days of using it I started getting some bad clusters of white heads and acne on my cheeks and chin. I really wanted to like this, it’s a good formula, it felt good on and it has high praise, but I ended up stopping it because the white heads and acne were getting worse not better. I had to let my skin settle and clear up before I started the serum. This is supposed to make your skin smoother, increase skin elasticity, even skin tone and improve fine lines. It’s supposed to overall improve skin texture, tone and appearance. Unfortunately I wasn’t able to test it for very long and I didn’t notice many of these things. It did make my skin feel plump after I applied it. I would need to test it a lot longer than a few days to see any improvements in these(smoothness, even skin tone and skin elasticity). Instead it made my skin angry. It took a couple of weeks but it cleared up and my skin went back to the way it was before I tried the Evening Restorative Complex.

Unfortunately I had the same problem with the serum. :( After just a few days I started getting white head clusters and this time the acne was worse. I still have a couple of big bumps. If you noticed the two giant mountains on my chin in my last FOTDS, those popped up in adition to smaller ones and white heads from this serum. D: So again I stopped using it. I didn’t want to take any chances on anything worse happening. This is supposed to help fade dark spots and discourage new ones from forming, even skin pigment, brighten skin and overall provide a more balanced and luminous complexion. Unfortunately I didn’t notice any of these things. I didn’t use it long enough to start to have any results. I’m not sure what ingredient or ingredients in these two formulas is not agreeing with my skin, but it’s really unfortunate. There are a few things in both formulas that could be causing the white heads and acne break outs. I wanted to love them and I hate having to write a less than stellar review of a product. You can see the CosDNA reports on the Evening Restorative Complex here and the OptiLight Essential 6 Serum here.

Now onto what I love! I love, love, love these pads. This has turned me onto Mandelic Acid. I have used other acids before, but not Mandelic Acid, I think that is the ingredient that my skin really loved with these pads, as I have not had such amazing results with other acid products. The Performance Peel AP25 is a set of cotton pads. Step 1 is the activator pad with Glycolic Acid, Mandelic Acid and Gluconolactone. They work together to exfoliate dead, dull surface layers, and stimulate the process of cell renewal among all skin layers.

Quick run down on Mandelic Acid
Mandelic Acid is an alpha hydroxy acid. Derived from bitter almonds, it has a number of benefits for the skin.

The molecular structure of mandelic acid is larger than better known alpha hydroxy acids such as glycolic acid and lactic acid. This means it takes longer to penetrate the skin’s surface and is much less irritating.

Rapidly exfoliates dead skin cells and surface debris from the skin.
Mandelic acid has antimicrobial/antibacterial properties, making it an excellent choice for all types of acne, including cystic acne.
Loosens blackheads for easy extraction.
Cleans and refines pores.
Refines the tone and texture of the skin, brightens.
Mandelic acid is excellent for clients with darker skin tones. It does not cause the unwanted, lighter skin tone changes that you might experience with other AHA’s.
Mandelic acid inhibits the growth of melanin, the cause of brown patches, freckles, uneven skin tone and other sun-related skin care issues.
Mandelic acid, with continued use, can help repair sun damaged skin.
Mandelic acid reduces lines and wrinkles without the irritation of other AHA’s.
Mandelic is typically an excellent exfoliator for clients suffering from Rosacea.
I also wanted to point out that Mandelic Acid is antibacterial.

Quick run down on Glycolic Acid
Glycolic acid is part of the group of active compounds known as AHA’s (alpha hydroxy acids). Derived from cane sugar.

It has the smallest molecules in the group so is able to penetrate skin deeply and easily, making it the most effective for treating fine lines, acne, blackheads, dullness, oiliness etc.

Glycolic acid provides a remarkably even exfoliation of the skin
Glycolic acid releases and dissolves dead skin cells – clearing up blocked pores and blackheads.
Glycolic acid a very effective acne treatment – particulary cystic acne which is caused by deep blockages of dead skin cells and sebum.
Glycolic acid reduces fine lines and signs of premature aging by increasing cell turnover – meaning younger healthier cells are now visible on the skin’s surface.
Acne scars (and other scar lesions) respond well to consistent glycolic acid treatment.
Further products and treatments can penetrate deeper as it removes the ‘barrier’ of dead cells and surface grime.
Glycolic acid minimizes the appearance of pores by keeping them clear and helping the surrounding cells to strengthen and regain elasticity .

Quick run down on Gluconolactone
Gluconolactone is a type of polyhydroxy acid, or PHA, that is called the next generation of alpha-hydroxy-acids by NeoStrata researchers who discovered their benefits. Polyhydroxy acids like gluconolactone have similar benefits to AHAs, but they have some additional benefits as well. The molecules of glucolactone are larger with a chemical structure that attracts and holds more water. This makes them well-suited for dry and sensitive skin.

Gluconolactone is a natural substance derived from gluconic acid. This important chemical is found in the bodies of many mammals. In animals, it is used to break down carbohydrates during digestion, so that their sugars can be used to produce the energy needed to power cellular activity. When gluconolactone is produced for use in products, it is typically derived from gluconic acid that has been manufactured in a laboratory, rather than extracted from a natural source.

Gluconolactone is also an antioxidant and anti-inflammatory that helps to protect skin against the harmful effects of free radicals created by sun exposure. Because gluconolactone reduces inflammation, it may be helpful for treating acne and rosacea. One study showed that gluconolactone treated acne as well as benzoyl peroxide with fewer side effects. Like alpha-hydroxy-acids, PHAs like gluconolactone lighten areas of pigmentation over time with regular use.

PHAs like gluconolactone appear to be safe, but using them regularly thins out the outer layer of the skin called the epidermis. This makes skin look brighter and more youthful, but it also makes skin more susceptible to sun damage since the protective epidermal layer is thinner. That is why it is advisable to use a daily sunscreen in conjunction with products containing gluconolactone.

Okay so. This peel is full of acid awesomeness and my skin loved it. First you apply the activator pad. I expected to feel much burning and for my face to turn red, however I felt minimal burning, it was more of a slight warm, tingly sensation and my face didn’t turn red. If you do experience burning and redness you can use the neutralizer pad early, if you don’t then after 10 minutes you use the neutralizer pad. Once I applied the neutralizer pad the warm tingly sensation completely disappeared. Then you rinse your face and carry on with your normal skincare routine. I have used these twice, I still have my 3rd one. I am testing some new skincare products so I’ve waited to use it. But man. These things are miracles. My pores become nearly invisible, my skin looks super clear and any redness I have disappears. It doesn’t dry my skin, but my skin feels supple and plump, soft and normal after. These are supposed to help with fine lines & wrinkles, even out skin tone and texture and create and overall radiance. I don’t have wrinkles, even if I did I would need to use these for longer to see how it works, so I can’t attest to how it works with that, but it did do everything else it claimed! I wish I were rich so I could keep myself well stocked in these. Using it twice a week like it suggests would be amazing. Unfortunately these are way out of my price range(what price range. hahaha). But if you can afford them, seriously, run, don’t walk and buy them. They are amazing. You can find the CosDNA reports for the activator pads here and the neutralizer pads here.

So two of the three things were a miss, but the peel pads more than make up for the other two misses. Have I mentioned I love them? Cause I do. <3 Have you tried any of these products? How did they work for you?

Thursday Guest Post

I Want to Smell Like Halloween

Happy Thursday all and welcome to my slightly spooky guest post! I frequent Reddit and that’s where I found out Luna was looking for guest posters. So I jumped at the opportunity and here I am.

a10PTCp

You have to understand right off the bat, I love Halloween. I mean, I love fall in general but I especially love Halloween. Between all the cool weather, the dressing up, and the never ending candy, what’s not to love?

So with October fast approaching I figured I’d review a few spooky scents for you from a couple of my favorite perfumeries.

 Blooddrop Perfumerie: Boo-tiful

DSC_0561 - Copy

“The perfume of a gorgeous and irresistible spirit; a blend of pink lotus, lily, broom, tea rose, and heliotrope absolutes on a base of creamy marshmallow.”

This one reminds me of a Victorian lady-ghost haunting a dusty, but elegant, house. I love it.

In the bottle it’s sweet, with a lot of light floral scents swirling around together. It’s hard to pick out individual notes, the scent just brings to mind “a butt ton of flowers”. Originally I didn’t think I’d like this one, flowers of any kind are a hit or miss for me because of potential headaches. It’s probably why I stick with foodie perfumes (who doesn’t want to smell like cake or a milkshake?).

Once you put it on those florals don’t stay light, the sweetness is still there but it’s almost overpoweringly floral. Like smushing your face into a bouquet of flowers. I think my skin digs flowers but nose doesn’t most of the time. I’m not entirely sure what pink lotus smells like but I can can pick out very strong notes of lily and rose.

Luckily this mellows out, with a very sweet and very creamy quality coming from the marshmallow. It ties everything together once it dries down into a very smooth, not quite gourmand, floral with a hint of hay. That might be from the broom? There’s also another layer of floral I don’t quite recognize, but I’m guessing it’s the heliotrope (I had to Google that one).

I found that the more it dried the more I liked it, it’s just those first few moments of flower-punch-in-the-face that throws me off. Wear time is great too, I’ve had it last through a whole work day where I catch whiffs of it as I’m typing. 10/10 would recommend, I’ve been wearing this on nights in but will be putting it on more often as soon as the weather figures out it’s supposed to be fall (curse you 90 degree weather).

Deepmidnight Perfume: Sleepy Hollow

DSC_0562 - Copy

“The orange and yellow moon is full and gleams through the trees as round as a jack o lantern. You just want to get through the woods and back home for a peaceful night. The crisp and lush smells of fall leaves and acorns, pumpkins, sweet candy treats, and fragrant spices, haunt your senses and relax you. Wait…was that the sound of horse’s hooves you just heard?”

That first sniff out of the vial it’s all cinnamon, just lots and lots of cinnamon. Luckily, subsequent sniffing (doesn’t that sound weird) lets me pick up hints of pumpkin and spices.

On the skin I get a lot of warm pumpkin with more of the spices coming through; cinnamon and maybe anise. It only briefly reminds me of those pumpkin spice lattes you start finding in coffee shops around this time of year. There’s also a hint of what reminds me of those scented fall candles you find in the store.

There’s also some sweetness to it from the candy and a cozy nuttiness in the back, once again from the spices I think. I was a little on the fence about this scent but after a while the smell of leaves and a bit of dirt start to come into play. It’s also a little sharp, not quite like crisp air, but it reminds me of being outside in the cold air after running between houses trick-or-treating as a kid.

Overall it has good throw and it just hangs around forever on my skin, even after a shower. What puts it into my “I need more of this category” though is the mixture of sweets and earthiness. I guess for some bizarre reason I want to smell like candy and dirt. I’ll probably be picking up a full size of this sometime soon.

sixteen92: Huntsman

DSC_0563

“Smoky Lapsang Souchong tea, dragon’s blood, cedar wood, fir balsam, leather, saffron, chai spice accord”

Right out of the vial there’s a lot of leather, fresh oiled leather. I usually find leather scents kind of overpowering but lucky for me there’s the scent of cedar in there to push it back a bit. It’s not quite a fresh cedar scent either, it reminds me of what it smells like when you’re sawing a cedar tree; a little warm and kind of fuzzy.

There’s a definite smoky note that emerges once you put it on, and it’s not the smell of burning wood either. Reminds me a bit of singed leaves, it’s actually a scent that I’m surprised I like. Normally smoky scents are a little too much for me. There is still a very strong scent of cedar and leather, but it blends really nicely with that earthy burnt leaf note. As for the spices mentioned in the description I caught a little saffron but none of the chai spices. I think the cedar might have overpowered that part a little bit.

I’d actually considering layering it with Sleepy Hollow, just to make it a little sweeter. I think it’d go well the cinnamon and earth notes in it. Huntsman actually strikes me as a more masculine scent but I’ll happily wear this one around regardless. It strikes me as the perfect scent for a cozy night in or when the weather starts getting cold and dreary.

Parting Thoughts

So I’m a really huge fan of Blooddrop perfumes, the packaging is adorable and the scents are always unique. I’m looking forward to a huge haul of decants of their Halloween selection this year.

It wasn’t till recently that I decided to try Deep Midnight Perfumes, I had heard that their specialty was Halloween scents. So I purchased a bunch of samples and loved almost of all of them but I think Sleepy Hollow is my favorite. Candied dirt, mmm.

Lastly, sixteen92 is a new perfume house on the block but all the scents I’ve tried have been very well thought out so far. Huntsman was in the giant fall pack I got and it’s the one I knew right off the bat I had to have it in a full size.

MzMLUXM

Anyway, that’s the end folks, hope you enjoyed my little review. Thank you again Luna for letting me do this guest post!

reviews

Also I want to let you know that I’m going to start doing reviews on single items! I’ll still be doing my swatch posts, but in addition I’ll be reviewing each item on its own as well. So look forward to that!

Besides that I am on more antibiotics. I saw my doctor yesterday. I still have an infection. There was more bloodwork and peeing in cups and shots. She also changed my insulin up a bit since my bloodsugar has started dipping way too low as of lately. Which is a good sign. It means the insulin resistance is changing, which is really good. She was afraid my pancreas was done with me. This means it’s not. XD I also have boots now! Fumiko’s Mamu got me a pair. I will be paying her back when I can, but I have boots! They are super comfy and cute. I will try to get a better picture tomorrow! So yep I guess that is all for the moment. NOTD coming up!

From SOBO Skin Care – USD $42.00 for 0.05 ounces in a pump bottle.

Directions
Apply to skin in a thin layer and allow to dry. Will moisturize and protect. Apply morning and evening.

Packaging
I received a sample. It came in a small plastic white pump bottle.

Scent and formula
There’s basically no scent. It’s a clear slightly thick liquid. It feels a little oily.

Ingredients
Cyclomethicone, Octyl Cocoate, Dimethiconol, Glycoceramides, Ceramides, Cholesterol.

I received my little sample around a month ago and have been using it since. It is a light silicone formula. I find that it feels a little oily instead of silky. Thought despite it feeling a little oily it doesn’t cause any issues with my bb cream. I’ve been using it around my eyes. It’s supposed to Visibly Reduces the Signs of Stress and Fatigue and Effectively Reduces Dark Circles & Puffiness Around Your Eyes. I don’t have bad dark circles under my eyes but they are visible, I haven’t really noticed any difference in them, nor have I noticed any difference in puffiness. I don’t have wrinkles so I can’t really attest to that. I haven’t had any medical procedures so I can’t attest to that either. Other than feeling oily I haven’t had any issues with the formula. It’s non-irritating, I had no reactions to it. But I haven’t really noticed any difference using it. I think it’s a good formula, but I just don’t have any of the issues it’s supposed to help with. While I have general dry skin my daily skincare routine prevents that from being an issue!

SOBO Skin Care has some other products as well! They have an Ultra Age Repairing Cream with Resveratrol, ULTRA HGF Youth Serum, Anti Wrinkle Serum and Essential Moisturizing Cream, Facial Moisturizer, Hydrating Face Cream! So you’ll want to check those out! The packaging is really sleek! SOBO has given me a discount code for you lovely people! You can get 25% off your entire order with code TRYSOBO. The code is good for your first purchase! :)

sponsored

I have some awesome glasses from Firmoo to review for you! Let the review begin!

Official description
The eyeglasses show how boldness and plastic can join to produce a fashion statement. Full -rimmed with a well designed oval cat eye shape makes you modern and different from anyone in all occasions.

Where to buy
From Firmoo – $69, price includes 1.50 single vision lenses. Standard shipping is USD $6.95.

Packaging
The glasses came to me in a sturdy eye glass case featuring a brown map. It also came with a black drawstring bag with Firmoo’s company name, a pink eye glass cleaning cloth and a key-chain screwdriver for glasses.

Size

Firmoo is an online eyeglass and sunglass shop. They have really inexpensive high-quality prescription[you can also get prescription free glasses] frames in tons of shapes, sizes and colors. They ship worldwide to different countries. You can check their faq to see what countries they ship to. I got to pick a pair of glasses to review for free. It was a little difficult because there were a few frames I really liked. So I ordered my glasses on August 7th, they shipped on August 11th and I received them on August 13th. Pretty fast! The frames come with 1.50 single vision lenses which are quite thin and not heavy at all. The frames themselves are fairly light and comfy. They don’t put pressure on my nose like some glasses have. They are also very sturdy and well made. The glasses came with a hard eye glass case with a map design on it, a drawstring pouch, cleaning cloth and tiny screw-driver! These glasses are pretty awesome. I love the color and design.

Ordering was really easy, I was able to register with Facebook. They have a feature where you can upload a picture of yourself and try on the glasses. I had way too much fun with this. They have so many cute frames in different shapes and colors. Here are some of the other frames I liked and tried on!

You can also add frames to your favorites list to come back to later. >.> I have a few on my favorites list. One more thing! Firmoo is offering free frames to first time customers. With code FREEFIRMOO you can get free frames, you just pay for shipping and the lenses. the 1.57 lenses are only USD $9.95. The thinner the lens the higher the price. You also get free anti-scratch. Anti-Reflective/Anti-radiation and UV coating are currently USD $4.95 each, and of course there are other fancy things you can do to your glasses! You can read more about it here and see the current frames that are free! Ordering and check out is super simple and fast. Customer service is great. They worked with me when I ordered to make sure everything went smooth! It was a lovely experience!
